Marc Marquez and Fabio Quartararo told they’re making one crucial ‘difference’ in qualifying this season

Marc Marquez has proven to the world that he is still one of the most talented motorcycle riders of all time, even at the age of 32 in 2025.

He has come back from a horrific injury, joined a new team and learned a new bike from scratch, and is now back to his very best form.

Fabio Quartararo has faced a similar challenge from a performance perspective, similar to what Marquez encountered at Honda.

But the Frenchman has remained loyal to Yamaha through some tough times and continues to churn out shocking results from time to time.

Quartararo was warned to ‘calm down’ after losing a victory at the British Grand Prix, by far his best race of the campaign, until he suffered a ride height device failure.

Marquez does have a ‘vulnerability’, but similar to Quartararo, it’s definitely not in qualifying. They’ve been spectacular for much of 2025.

Marc Marquez and Fabio Quartararo are the riders making a ‘difference’ in qualifying in 2025

Marquez warned Quartararo at the Italian Grand Prix after he suffered a fall, and it left him holding his left shoulder.

The two haven’t really had too much of an opportunity to fight each other at the top, but it could certainly be the case in 2026 with the introduction of Yamaha’s V4 bike.

Marquez made Quartararo feel out of his depth during his first MotoGP test back in 2019, but two years later, the roles had almost reversed.

This year, both riders are the only ones on the grid to have taken more than one pole position. Marquez has six pole positions and Quartararo has four.

Journalist Giovanni Zamagni has revealed on his Zam, full throttle! podcast, where they have been making the ‘difference’ over their rivals throughout the season.

“Here, in this technological MotoGP, where the mechanical vehicle counts more and more, Quartararo, as well as Marc Márquez and other drivers, is one of those drivers who are still able to make a difference,” he said.

How Fabio Quartararo could match an incredible MotoGP feat in 2025

It had been three years since Quartararo’s last pole position before he ended the streak with a terrific lap at Jerez.

With two more pole positions, he will match his record for the most that he has ever taken in a season (six), which he achieved back in 2019.

That came under special circumstances, too, as he was riding the satellite SRT bike. Much like 2025, he claimed six poles and took no victories that year.

Being down in 11th place with four poles is disappointing, but it offers reason for encouragement. His bike has pace, and he just needs to find a way to emulate it on a Sunday.
