MotoGP fans are saying the same thing about Alex Marquez after ‘nightmare’ crash at the Dutch Grand Prix

Alex Marquez sustained his second retirement of the MotoGP season at the Dutch Grand Prix after an unfortunate tangle with Pedro Acosta.

The Spaniard has finished in the top six in all but two races, in which he failed to reach the finish, and has been a model of consistency.

His MotoGP championship aspirations are looking bleak, as he now trails his brother by a gap that would take two perfect race weekends with Marc retiring in both, to recover from.

Marquez is 68 points behind, but Gresini are not going to give up on the title just yet. After all, the halfway point of the season hasn’t even been reached yet.

Marquez is ‘without a doubt’ ready to join Marc at Ducati, according to champion Jorge Lorenzo, who has been impressed by Alex in 2025.

Just a few weeks ago, Marquez admitted Alex is ‘essential’ to his training, such is how tight their bond is after spending years together fighting to reach the top.

MotoGP fans are saying the same thing about Alex Marquez after ‘nightmare’ crash

Marquez was told to ‘stop’ doing one thing and reduce his small errors, but turning them into bigger ones wasn’t in the plan either.

While fighting with Pedro Acosta at the Dutch Grand Prix, contact meant that his brakes were accidentally applied, sending him spearing off and fracturing his left hand in the process.

Fans on X (formerly known as Twitter), were keen to share their opinions immediately after the matter, as one said, “Racing incident only.”

“Gresini with a nightmare race,” replied another fan.

“Too much pressure on him after yesterday. He was forced to attack like his [life] depended on it from the fans, who unrightfully accused him for nothing,” wrote someone else in his defence.

However, not everyone had pity for the Spaniard, “Shoulder to shoulder, don’t cry,” while another fan said, “This is not normal.”

And finally, one last fan criticised his racing manoeuvres, which led to the crash, “Bruh Alex forced Acosta to go outside the track lol. Alex has more space to [the] left.”

Are Alex Marquez’s MotoGP title hopes officially over for 2025?

10 races out of 22 have now been completed, meaning that there is still plenty of time for the tide to turn around.

However, it’s hard to see anyone beating the older Marquez, who has been in imperious form for much of the season.

Alex would need to start winning now to put enough pressure on him to win by the end of the season. 68 points would take a long time to recover from.

It seems that the combination of being on the GP24, which simply isn’t quick enough, and Alex, who may now be injured, means the title seems a bit of a stretch.

Fans will be hoping that the 29-year-old will not be missing out on any races over the next few weeks, with a double header soon before the summer break.
