Marc Marquez was once left ‘angry’ by Aragon crash after being caught out by something he ‘didn’t expect’

Marc Marquez has come a long way over the last few years and is starting to hit his MotoGP stride again with Ducati.

After ending a 10-year premier class relationship with Honda at the end of 2023, he took a big plunge into the unknown.

Fortunately, landing on a Ducati bike was one of the best things that could have happened to him, and he returned to race-winning form almost immediately.

Marquez was subsequently signed up to the factory team for 2025 and has been in dominant form ever since, bar the odd mistake.

Marc has been told to ‘let’ Alex Marquez win the title this season, as it would be his first and maybe only chance to do so.

Despite a messy British Grand Prix, Marquez was the ‘happiest’ rider despite crashing out of the race before a red flag. Being given a second chance was a big blessing.

Marc Marquez was once left ‘angry’ by Aragon crash that he ‘didn’t expect’ in practice

Honda staff gave Marquez a brilliant nickname and used to laud him for his incredible saves during his time with the team.

He’s renowned for being able to bring his bike back from unsaveable positions. However, it’s not always the case.

During his comeback MotoGP season in 2021, he suffered a crash during practice at Aragon, which left him ‘angry’.

“It [the crash] changed a little bit the plan, but on the other hand we tried the hard rear tyre, so it changed the plan for this afternoon but didn’t change the plan for the race weekend because we already understood a few things,” he told Autosport.

“It’s true that after the crash, I was angry because I felt under control. I went wide, and I said ‘OK, give up’ because it’s free practice.

“But when I go onto the dirty place, I lost the front and I was just angry for that, because then I know with that crash, I didn’t follow the correct plan and because it was a situation that I felt under control but just I lost the front where I didn’t expect.”

Why Marc Marquez can set a new MotoGP record in 2025 by achieving one thing

Marquez currently holds a solid 24-point lead over brother Alex in the riders’ standings, but that’s bound to fluctuate for the rest of the season.

In fact, if he can hold on and finally achieve a seventh title – one that he has been waiting nearly six years for, he will break a record.

Valentino Rossi currently holds the record for being the oldest MotoGP champion in history at the age of 30.

Marquez would be 32 if he wins this year, and would have done so after changing manufacturers and coming back from a horrific injury.

Gresini were scared to sign Marquez from Honda, but it turned out to be a masterstroke, and they will forever be a vital part in his special story of returning to the top if he wins it all.
