Marc Marquez’s spectacular crash at the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix threatened to end his MotoGP career, but he has fought back against the odds.

Despite limited movement in his arms, he refused to give up and returned to race-winning form with Gresini last season.

Departing Honda’s factory setup has been an inspired move. It has helped him to rediscover his scintillating form.

Marquez is now the face of Ducati and is the favourite to win the MotoGP title this year. It would be his seventh and break the record for the oldest winner in history, currently held by Valentino Rossi.

Marquez is now even more tight with Alex, his younger brother, since they started fighting each other for the championship this season.

Neil Hodgson spotted Alex do ‘something special’ as he pushes the limits of his brother’s weaknesses. It may be an advantage and a disadvantage that they know each other better than anyone else.

Marc Marquez admits he was ‘angry’ at Alex Marquez while recovering from mega MotoGP crash

Marquez ‘realised’ he could destroy his rivals early in his career, but this came at a cost when his advantage began to slip away.

In 2020, Honda’s dominance was coming to an end, and it meant that he had to push his limits more than ever.

It resulted in a catastrophic crash at the season-opening 2020 Grand Prix of Spain, which forced him to miss the rest of the season and nearly ended his career.

Speaking to TNT Sports, he admitted that his response to recovery wasn’t fair on his family, as he battled pain every day.

“Angry to move to my people,” he said. “Because in the end, I was angry to you [Alex], I was answering in not a correct way at all, as I was with my family and everything.

“It’s not easy when you have a lot of pain inside your body. It’s like when you have a head pain, you are not the same person. Imagine with the arm, 24 hours.”

How did Marc Marquez bounce back from his 2020 MotoGP accident?

After multiple gruelling operations, and days where he doubted whether he would ever have full use of his arm again, Marquez returned in 2021.

However, Honda continued to struggle, and it forced him to leave at the end of the 2023 season, having failed to win for two years.

He had his doubters, but he proved them wrong almost immediately by finishing third in the championship in 2024, after taking three victories.

It took him just four races to match that tally in 2025, displaying dominant form on the factory Ducati, which has been incredible.
