Luigi Dall’Igna may now change his mind about Francesco Bagnaia running famous event after Luca Marini crash

Luca Marini’s heavy crash in testing for the Suzuka 8 Hours is likely to see him sidelined from MotoGP for an extended period of time.

His injuries sound similar to Jorge Martin’s from the Grand Prix of Qatar, including a pneumothorax, suggesting that he suffered a heavy shunt.

Marini’s crash is a blow to Honda, who have been starting to show some impressive speed during the 2025 season.

One of the few teams that haven’t been affected by rider injury this season is Ducati, who have had to encounter different problems instead.

Francesco Bagnaia has a problem at Ducati and hasn’t been performing anywhere close to his usual levels to start the MotoGP season.

If he wants to rescue something from the campaign, Bagnaia must follow his crew chief’s advice and stay motivated.

Luigi Dall’Igna may want to rethink letting Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia complete the Suzuka 8 Hours

Although Bagnaia’s Ducati performance has been ‘very strange’, his team still depend on him to bring home solid points.

Over the last two races, including sprints, he has picked up just four points. New teammate Marc Marquez has applied a lot of pressure to him this year.

Their boss, Luigi Dall’Igna, may want to rethink a conversation they had recently at the British Grand Prix about competing in a famous event – the Suzuka 8 Hours.

Suffering a similar fate to Marini would be disastrous and could also end up doing more long-term damage that they cannot afford to risk.

“Me, Bubi [Nicolo Bulega] and Petrux [Dani Pedrosa]…” said Bagnaia.

“Suzuka,” Dall’Igna replied. “You know that when he has some idea, we work on it.”

Is Francesco Bagnaia still in the 2025 MotoGP championship fight?

It would be hard to convince anyone that Bagnaia is still in the title fight on current form, while trailing by 72 points.

He just doesn’t seem to be working well with the GP25 machine, and a return to last year’s bike, which he won 11 Grands Prix on, doesn’t appear to be on the cards.

Pedro Acosta ‘highly doubts’ Ducati will drop Bagnaia, but the two-time champion does need to find another gear or two soon.

Otherwise, with the MotoGP rider market intensifying, and Gresini’s Alex Marquez performing well too, he could be under more danger than is realised.
