Francesco Bagnaia simply must follow his Ducati crew chief’s advice to improve 2025 MotoGP struggles

Francesco Bagnaia is slipping further away in the 2025 MotoGP title hunt. The Italian is now 72 points off championship leader and teammate Marc Marquez.

The Ducati rider has found it difficult to adapt to the GP25 and has offered little competition at the front of the field. Winning fortuitously in Austin, Bagnaia has not been near the level of the Marquez brothers in 2025, as the GP24 riders are beginning to beat him comfortably.

The last two Grand Prix have been particularly damaging. The 28-year-old crashed out in the Sprint at Le Mans, before limping home in 16th on Sunday after a first-lap collision with Enea Bastianini.

While Bagnaia outqualified Marquez for the first time, Silverstone was another disaster. The Ducatis struggled in the cold conditions as Bagnaia crashed out again, while his teammate finished third and extended his championship lead even further.

Bagnaia was frustrated with a ‘very strange’ issue at the British GP. He could not keep his rear tyre in the optimum window as he fell back from the podium spots to sixth.

The two-time MotoGP champion looks out of the picture after seven rounds in 2025. But his Ducati crew chief may have the answer to his woes.

Cristian Gabarrini says he will ‘keep going’ when he is ‘enthusiastic’ – Francesco Bagnaia must follow his advice

Crew chief Cristian Gabarrini spoke via Bagnaia’s official YouTube channel to share what keeps him motivated to perform at the highest level. He says that ‘you need to aim to enjoy it’ and ‘stay enthusiastic’ to perform at your best.

Bagnaia must take this advice on board. While his season looks to be over already, he cannot dwell on his losses and must keep a clear head for the remainder of the season to extract the best results and salvage a strong finish.

“I think in life, and especially in this job which demands sacrifices in terms of time and family, you need to aim to enjoy it, to stay enthusiastic. And I still do,” said Gabarrini.

“Regardless of results, as long as you’re excited to do it, I think that’s the real achievement.

“I’m not someone who obsesses over the number of titles. That’s more for the rider, because they’re the ones who win the championships and bring the team along with them.

“Sure, the team plays a big role. But for me, it’s about how I feel doing this job. As long as I’m happy, I’ll keep going and give it my all.

“When it starts feeling heavy, I’ll start thinking about stepping back or doing something else.”

Ducati must support Francesco Bagnaia during 2025 struggles

Bagnaia is struggling with the GP25 as he constantly lacks any feeling from the front end. The Italian knows he must adapt his riding style to the bike – he needs to have Ducati’s full support.

MotoGP fans think Luigi Dall’Igna has lost faith in Bagnaia following his recent crashes. The Ducati chief has been critical of the 28-year-old for performing below expectations compared to teammate Marquez.

But amid his struggles, Ducati know how valuable their rider is. Dall’Igna says Bagnaia deserves respect for being an ‘exceptional’ person behind the scenes.

This is exactly the support the Bologna outfit needs to provide for the remainder of the season. While it may seem like an uphill battle, the right support network will put Bagnaia in the right headspace to improve his form.
