Cal Crutchlow reveals the superb message he sends Jack Miller after every MotoGP race

Cal Crutchlow had already been a MotoGP rider for four years when Jack Miller broke into the premier class in 2015. After Crutchlow parted ways with Ducati and Miller finished runner-up in Moto3, they linked up at LCR.

It was a short-lived partnership, with Crutchlow staying put at LCR until his retirement in 2020 and Miller switching to the Marc VDS team for the next two seasons. But they’re now under the same umbrella again.

After losing his seat at KTM, Miller bagged a spot with Yamaha satellite team Pramac. He will benefit from the work of test rider Crutchlow.

Miller started the season well with three straight points finishes, including a spectacular top five in Austin. But he’s now enduring a more difficult run, with his crash at Le Mans bringing up a third straight DNF.

Cal Crutchlow always taunts Pramac rider Jack Miller after MotoGP races

Speaking on the Paddock Pass podcast, Crutchlow revealed that he still speaks to Miller after every single MotoGP race. And he always taunts the 30-year-old by telling him he would have won.

Miller briefly looked like he could win the French GP, ending a drought that stretched back to Japan 2022. Showcasing his famously strong instincts in changeable conditions, he made the right call on wet tyres before the rain intensified.

He was 10 seconds ahead of Johann Zarco, the eventual race-winner who adopted the same strategy, when he went down on lap six. While he offered some sympathy, Crutchlow couldn’t help but poke fun at him.

“It’s funny, because I’ll still text Jack most race weekends,” the Briton, who won three Grands Prix during his career, said. “Before the race it might be ‘good luck’ or ‘you’re riding well’, and I always end it by saying, ‘But you know I’d win that’.

“And then, at the end of the race weekend, depending on what’s gone on, I’ll always write, ‘You know I would have won that’.

“After Le Mans, it was raining, he was the guy that would have been up the road with Zarco and it didn’t happen. I spoke to him after and I said, ‘Listen mate, it happens, sometimes you win, sometimes you don’t’ and at the end of the conversation I said, ‘I definitely would have won that, mate’.”

Jack Miller finds unlikely ally as he tries to stay on the MotoGP grid

Marco Bezzecchi admitted copying Miller on the Le Mans grid because he ‘usually makes a good choice’. It’s clear just how much his fellow riders respect him.

However, Miller needs results to quiet speculation over his future. He’s one of the few riders out of contract at the end of 2025.

Pramac have been linked with Toprak Razgatlioglu, the two-time World Superbikes champion. Yamaha chief Paolo Pavesio has an excellent relationship with the Turkish rider.

Crucially, though, Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta is protecting Miller. While one wouldn’t normally expect the bosses to get involved in contract decisions, the four-time race-winner is seen as a key asset for the Australian market.
