Pramac Racing are one of the stalwart satellite outfits on the MotoGP grid and even became the first independent squad to win the premier class teams’ championship.

The Italian crew have been a part of the premier class since it rebranded as MotoGP in 2002 and have regularly put the Pramac name in the spotlight. Running Jorge Martin in 2024 even saw Pramac help the Spaniard be the first independent riders’ champion in the MotoGP era.

It marked back-to-back independent titles for Pramac after their 2023 teams’ championship trophy, too. Yet amid their glory running Ducati Desmosedici bikes, Pramac parted ways with the Bologna Bullets over a sense their Italian counterparts desired a stronger link with VR46.

Pramac Racing MotoGP team name

Pramac Racing first adopted their current team name ahead of the 2009 MotoGP season to simply denote the Pramac company which initially founded the operation. Across their first seven seasons on the grid, the team had embraced a variety of names due to partnerships.

Their first two seasons in the premier class had seen them operate bikes under the Pramac Honda name. Pramac even operated bikes through a partnership with Pons Racing in 2003, which became Camel Honda in 2004, before splitting and joining up with d’Antin from 2005.

Adopting the Pramac d’Antin name even marked the start of what would become a lengthy relationship between Pramac and Ducati after ditching Honda bikes after 2004. D’Antin had been around since 1999 but had fallen into financial trouble during the 2003 MotoGP term.

Yet another new name also featured on the entry list in 2008 as Pramac d’Antin became the Alice Team thanks to a sponsorship deal with Telecom Italia’s DSL service. But that deal only lasted one year and with Luis d’Antin also leaving in 2008, the team became Pramac in 2009.

Since then, the Pramac company’s name has been the central aspect of the MotoGP outfit’s identity alongside various title sponsorship deals – including the Italian insurance company Prima since May 2022 and Groupe Renault’s sportscar brand Alpine is set to join from 2025.

Pramac Racing debuted in MotoGP during the 2002 season having taken over the Hardwick Racing operation. Hardwick Racing had fallen into financial trouble following the climax of a sponsorship deal with Shell, so Pramac took over their 500cc operation to battle in MotoGP.

Pramac Racing currently field Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira as their two full-time riders for the 2025 MotoGP season. Miller and Oliveira respectively agreed to join Pramac on one and two-year deals after they both vacated KTM Factory Racing and Trackhouse Racing in 2024.

Yamaha provide Pramac Racing with two, full factory-spec YZR-M1 bikes for use in the 2025 MotoGP season. The Yamaha YZR-M1 has traditionally utilised an inline-four-cylinder engine but is likely to boast a V4 engine in 2025 to combat the bike’s limited straight-line top speed.

Pramac Racing MotoGP riders’ championships

Despite being a MotoGP team since 2002, Pramac Racing did not win their debut riders’ title until Jorge Martin took the championship trophy in 2024 aboard a Ducati Desmosedici GP24 bike. Pramac helped Martin to be the first independent riders’ champion in the MotoGP era.
