MotoGP fans are delighted after seeing how Gresini taunted Marc Marquez before French Grand Prix

Marc Marquez arrives at the Grand Prix of France one point behind Alex in the MotoGP world championship. His fall in Spain last time out paved the way for his brother to take his first Grand Prix victory.

Marquez Jr leads the standings chiefly because of his consistency. He’s picked up four podiums in five rounds, and still managed a P6 in a scruffier race in Qatar.

Meanwhile, Ducati superstar Marc has won every Sprint and claimed all but one pole position, but gone down twice on Sundays. He retired from the Americas GP after leading and was the favourite to win at Jerez before dropping to the back of the pack.

Among active riders, the older Marquez is most successful at the French Grand Prix. He’s racked up three Le Mans wins in the premier class, most recently in 2019.

His inherent pace advantage suggests he’ll eventually pull away in the title race. But for now, his former team, Gresini, are relishing leading the riders’ standings.

Gresini mock ‘second place’ Marc Marquez ahead of French Grand Prix

Ahead of the French GP, Gresini shared a video playfully taunting Marquez on social media. They reserved a seat for the #93 rider with a plaque that read ‘2nd posto [2nd place], MotoGP world championship 2025’.

The 65-time winner took the joke in good spirits, and fans were thrilled by the camaraderie. Gresini were told they had ‘the best garage environment on the grid’, while one Instagram user called them ‘pure comedy and sarcasm’.

There were a couple of responses applauding Marquez’s warm ‘relationship’ with Gresini. They gave him his debut on a Ducati motorcycle in 2024, paving the way for his factory move.

“God I love this team,” another comment read.

“What a good vibe there is between them all,” a fellow MotoGP fan observed.

Alex Marquez still believes these riders have an edge over Marc Marquez

Gresini saw satellite rider Jorge Martin win the title for Pramac last season. After Paolo Campinoti’s team moved over to Yamaha, there’s a new second-in-command squad at Ducati.

Alex Marquez sees the similarities between himself and Martin, but he’s consistently played down his title chances. By winning at Jerez, he’s already achieved the most realistic goal for the season.

In a recent interview, Marquez told his older sibling that Giacomo Agostini remains the greatest MotoGP rider ever. He also regards Angel Nieto as the best Spaniard to take to the track.

The Ant of Cervera needs just three more wins to match the Italian all-time. He’s still a couple of times away, but few would expect anything other than back-to-back crowns before the 2027 rules reset.
