KTM’s start to the 2025 MotoGP campaign had been a bit disappointing until Maverick Vinales’ shock performance at the Grand Prix of Qatar.
Even though he lost his podium after a post-race penalty, it showed that KTM does have some pace and may be able to compete for podiums.
The rider who will be particularly pleased by that is Pedro Acosta, at a time when rumours about his future were beginning to circulate.
He secured five podiums during his rookie MotoGP season in 2024 but hasn’t looked like challenging the top five once this year.
Acosta said MotoGP rules need to be changed after KTM lost their first trophy of the campaign to a tyre pressure infringement.
It came just days after Acosta was adamant he’s still better than anyone in the sport at mitigating time loss while overtaking.

Pit Beirer admits KTM’s ‘brutal’ problem is stopping Pedro Acosta from competing for wins
Acosta could join Honda for 2026 if he wants to chase more money and has more faith in their project in the long run.
Pit Beirer told Mowmag that the Austrian manufacturer knows where their issues stem from. It’s something they’re confident they can overcome.
“But I repeat: the problem is technical. Look at our other disciplines: Dakar, MX, Supercross, we win everywhere. MotoGP is brutal,” he said.
“At KTM we are prepared for the future and we have a lot of support within the company to continue competing at a very high level.”
Francesco Guidotti predicts Acosta will leave KTM but he is contracted until the end of next season. He would have to be bought out to leave early.
Why Pedro Acosta should be far better over the rest of the 2025 MotoGP campaign
Next up, MotoGP returns to Europe for the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez in less than two weeks – Acosta’s home event.
His adoring fans may give him the extra boost needed to push for the top positions. There may also be some upgrades on the way.
Being much closer to KTM’s factory, the European leg of the season should make life much easier for them to bring new parts to their bikes.
Acosta should also be a bit more familiar with the tracks he will be visiting over the next few months, ensuring that he doesn’t have to start from square one at every event.
