Fermin Aldeguer achieved his best result as a MotoGP rider so far in the Grand Prix of Qatar as the Gresini rookie secured fifth at the Lusail International Circuit last Sunday.
The 20-year-old had not achieved a top 10 finish before the 2025 MotoGP season rolled into Lusail. Yet Aldeguer displayed the potential that tempted Ducati to hand the Spaniard a two-year factory contract and place him at Gresini by climbing up to fifth from eighth on the grid.
Aldeguer even hit the chequered flag 7.484 seconds behind Qatar GP winner Marc Marquez as the factory Ducati rider did the double from pole position. He was also only 0.989s off the podium as VR46 ace Franco Morbidelli plus Johann Zarco of LCR Honda led Aldeguer home.

Gresini rookie Fermin Aldeguer using other Ducati rider’s ‘data’ to improve his braking
Fifth place shattered Aldeguer’s previous best result in the premier class after securing 13th on debut at the Grand Prix of Thailand, 16th in the Argentina Grand Prix and crashing out of the Grand Prix of the Americas. The Murcia native also got his first Sprint points with fourth.
Lusail was not a flawless weekend, however, as Aldeguer struggled with ‘a lot of chatter’ in Qatar. The Gresini ace reckons his problems were three to four times worse than any other Ducati. He is keeping close tabs on the data of the other five Ducati bikes to try to improve.

Aldeguer is especially paying attention to the data from his Gresini teammate Alex Marquez, Ducati’s Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia plus Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio of VR46 to see where the MotoGP rookie can brake later and to take a better speed through corners.
“I’m focused on myself and on adapting to the style required by the Desmosedici,” Aldeguer outlined, via GPOne. “I actually look at the data of other [Ducati riders] but only to have the references on braking points and for the speed to have in corners.”
Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia’s Ducati data is a coveted resource for Fermin Aldeguer

Aldeguer admits he can pay ‘too much attention’ to rival riders in races which can cause the Gresini rookie to struggle to bring home big results. But looking at the data of the other five Ducati riders, particularly six-time MotoGP champion Marquez, is a very beneficial resource.
Young riders would relish being in Aldeguer’s position to see where Marquez makes up time through especially left-hand corners. Also, getting to study Bagnaia’s braking data is another helpful asset for the Gresini talent, with the two-time champion one of the best on the grid.

Only KTM Factory Racing rider Pedro Acosta can often match Bagnaia as one of the very last of the late brakers in MotoGP. Now, the next challenge for Aldeguer is to use what he learns from Ducati’s rich data banks to achieve the Gresini rookie’s first podium as a MotoGP rider.
