Fermin Aldeguer admits one problem has ‘affected’ Gresini’s morale for the 2025 MotoGP season

Fermin Aldeguer secured the best result of his young MotoGP career at the Grand Prix of Qatar with a terrific ride to sixth place.

After fellow compatriot Maverick Vinales received a post-race penalty for a tyre pressure infringement, he was promoted to fifth. It was a fantastic performance by the Gresini rookie.

Aldeguer seems to be improving with every MotoGP weekend. For the first time he finished ahead of teammate Alex Marquez in a race, and that should help him build some confidence.

The Grand Prix of Qatar helps the Spaniard move up to 14th in the riders’ championship. This is just the beginning for him.

Aldeguer admitted to struggling with a MotoGP habit at the Lusail which has been costing him. He focuses too much on his rivals during the early part of races.

It isn’t an excuse for a lack of pace, but Aldeguer was surprised by Marquez after he took ownership of the championship lead in COTA. It shows how much more potential there is in his bike.

Fermin Aldeguer thinks Gresini morale ‘affected’ by problem with 2025 MotoGP bike

Aldeguer rejected a VR46 deal to sign with Gresini and so far in 2025, both teams have been competing for podiums.

The Ducati satellite teams are well-placed to take victories this year, they just need to remain patient and wait for the factory outfit to take their eye off the ball (if at all that happens).

Speaking after the race in Qatar, Aldeguer was disappointed to face a vibration issue during the race which he thinks held him back and could do in the future.

“A bit of bad luck, I think we had a small problem with the rear tyre during today’s race. That’s why my feeling changed a bit. There was a lot of vibration, a lot of chatter,” he told Motosan.

“Three, four times more than the Ducati rider who had the most. So, it’s something that’s affected our morale a bit because I think today I was fighting for much more.

“But anyway, we have to be happy. And if we manage to make the Top 5 despite problems, I think what’s coming next is much more.”

Why Fermin Aldeguer will be expected to ramp up his performance for Gresini soon

Aldeguer’s case hasn’t been helped by his teammate hitting peak form in 2025. Marquez has finished second in seven of the first eight races.

While the gap between the two may seem large at first glance, it has been closing and with that will come opportunities for the rookie.

He won’t be allowed to get away with being on the fringe of the top 10 while the other bike competes for victories at every event.

Qatar proved that he can do it, and the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix – his home event, which he won in Moto2 last year, should only boost his confidence and speed further.
