Suzi Perry reveals the worrying Argentina Grand Prix rumour she’s just heard ‘on very good authority’

The MotoGP paddock has arrived in Argentina for the second race of the 2025 season. There was initially doubt as to whether the event in Termas de Rio Hondo would feature on the calendar.

Dorna had to cancel the race last season as the government pulled funding. MotoGP teams were hesitant to buy Argentina Grand Prix plane tickets in case the same happened again.

However, Michelin shipped their tyres to Argentina in January, which indicated that they had received the necessary assurances. The race will ultimately go ahead as planned.

The Autodromo Termas de Rio Hondo debuted on the calendar in 2014 but three recent editions have had to be cancelled. The Covid-19 pandemic saw the 2020 and 2021 Grands Prix removed from the calendar.

Indeed, it’s telling that Honda are the most successful team at the Argentina GP (in its current guise) despite their decline. They have three wins, one more than the next-best, Yamaha.

Suzi Perry believes Brazil will replace Argentina Grand Prix on MotoGP calendar

Speaking on TNT Sports’ live broadcast of FP1, Suzi Perry shared her conversation with a ‘very good source’ over the future of Argentina in MotoGP. She believes this year’s race will be the last for the foreseeable future.

Brazil returns to the calendar next year, with Dorna going to great lengths to promote the event. A one-year countdown graphic featured on the world feed on Friday.

And it seems that the race in Goiana will replace Argentina in the calendar, which means South America will still only occupy one slot. The decision will likely split opinion.

The teams may welcome clarity after the recent unease. But the Argentina GP has produced some classic MotoGP moments, increasing its popularity with fans.

“The calendar’s obviously not out yet,” Perry said. “But I was told on very good authority on the 30-hour trip over here that we wouldn’t be coming back here. That isn’t confirmed yet.

“But I would say that’s a very good source that I heard that from. It would be Brazil rather than coming back to Argentina.”

Argentina may look to prioritise Formula 1 over the top class of motorcycle racing. Franco Colapinto broke into the sport last year as their first representative since 2001, and he could yet return to the grid in 2025.

Our MotoGP experts pick the rider to watch at the Argentina Grand Prix

Everyone in the MotoGP paddock experts Marc Marquez to win once again in Argentina. The ease of his double victory in Thailand has raised fears of a processional campaign at the front.

That consensus is reflected in our MotoGP experts’ predictions for Argentina. The only question is who will join the Ducati duo on the podium, with Ai Ogura, Marco Bezzecchi and Franco Morbidelli all identified as contenders.

Two of our experts have identified Pedro Acosta as a rider to watch this weekend. Acosta’s fall denied him a points finish at the Thailand Grand Prix, but he looked like the fastest of the KTM riders beforehand.

This is the Spaniard’s first visit to Argentina at MotoGP level. He finished seventh and 12th in his Moto2 years but is always capable of the spectacular.
