The 2025 MotoGP season is nearing closer with pre-season testing on the horizon.

The teams have already begun preparations for the upcoming campaign. The riders got their first outing on their 2025 machinery at the post-season test in Barcelona in November.

Bikes will return to the track at the end of January/beginning of February as MotoGP holds a shakedown test. The teams will then have two pre-season sessions at Sepang and Buriam on the weekends of February 5-7 and 12-13 respectively.

The 2025 season kicks off with the Thailand Grand Prix on March 2. This year will mark the championship’s biggest ever calendar with 22 races scheduled.

Czechia will return to the calendar after last hosting a race in 2020. The premier class will also return to Hungary for the first time since 1992 at the brand-new Balaton Park Circuit.

Some MotoGP teams are ‘worried’ the Argentine Grand Prix will be cancelled again

However, there are some concerns over whether all 22 races will go ahead in 2025.

Last season, planned races in Argentina, India and Kazakhstan were all cancelled. The season finale at Valencia was relocated to Barcelona due to the tragic floods in the region.

The Argentine Republic motorcycle Grand Prix has been on the MotoGP calendar since 2014. However, the event’s future is in doubt due to the economic issues the country is facing.

The 2023 World Superbike Championship finale – which was set to be held in San Juan Villicum in Argentina – was cancelled due to the high inflation rate in the country. Subsequently, the 2024 MotoGP race was cancelled as well.

The event is pencilled in as the second race of the 2025 season after Thailand. But according to a report from Speedweek, that is causing ‘some disbelief’ among some of the teams.

The report claims that ‘not everyone has booked their travels yet’ in fear that the event will be cancelled again and they will be left with the costs.

After three events were cancelled in 2024, Dorna Managing Director Carmelo Ezpeleta has said that organisers must pay a deposit if they want to host an event. They will lose said money if it is to be cancelled.

Speedweek have reported that Dorna is ‘almost 100% sure’ that the 2025 race in Argentina will take place. They claim that the first instalment has been paid and all agreements have been honoured at this stage.
