Jorge Martin’s mother shares his private reaction to ‘get strong’ message from Marc Marquez

Jorge Martin has received well wishes from both Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia after his pre-season injuries. The world champion missed the season-opening Thailand Grand Prix following a crash just days before the event.

He will also be absent in Argentina this weekend. His return date is unknown, although there’s caution at Aprilia given that Martin has fractured his scaphoid, a ‘particularly troublesome’ bone for MotoGP riders.

There’s a clear respect between the three riders despite their rivalries. Martin and Bagnaia have battled for the title in each of the last two seasons, with the former gaining revenge at the 2024 finale.

Marquez wasn’t a title challenger last season, but he was Martin’s rival for a Ducati factory ride. In the end, Luigi Dall’Igna went with the six-time MotoGP champion.

Martin subsequently moved to Aprilia, but his new era got off to a disastrous start with a violent accident on day one of the Sepang Test. The fractures he sustained ruled him out of testing, and a subsequent fall has sidelined him for the start of the season.

Having been through injury hell at the start of the decade, Marquez sent an emotional recovery message to Martin last month. Ahead of the race in Buriram, the no. 1 bike was left vacant as the riders posed for the official grid photo.

Jorge Martin’s mother praises Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia for messages

A sympathetic Bagnaia called Martin ‘unlucky’ after the Sepang incident, suggesting he was on the wrong tyres for the track conditions. Aprilia were furious with suppliers Michelin.

In an interview with El Larguero, Martin’s mother Susana Almoguera commended Marquez and Bagnaia for sending classy messages. She revealed that her son was touched to receive the texts.

Martin never expected to challenge Ducati for the title in 2025, and now that’s all but impossible. He’s optimistic about ending their dynasty in ’26, by which point he’ll be fully adapted to the motorcycle barring further setbacks.

“It says a lot about them as athletes,” Almoguera said. “Many riders have sent him messages of support. Marquez and Pecco have sent him messages.

“He told me ‘look, mum, Marquez has written to me’. Above all, the basis of the messages was ‘get well, get strong’.”

Could Jorge Martin return in Austin? Here’s what his mother says

Doctors believe Martin’s injuries could take three months to heal. If he was to wait until then, that would mean a six-race absence.

It’s far more likely that he’ll try to ride through the pain. Aprilia will be desperate to unleash him, particularly given that test rider Lorenzo Savadori was off the pace at the back of the pack in Thailand.

But they need to find the right moment. Bring him back too soon, and he could do lasting damage, too late, and Aprilia could lose decisive ground in the championship.

Martin’s mother is wary of a comeback at the Grand Prix of the Americas, hinting that it may be too soon. She did, however, say that his recovery is progressing well.
