MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin has been ruled out of the Thailand Grand Prix. That’s after he sustained his second injury of the off-season during a private training session.
Martin missed almost all of pre-season testing after a frightening highside on day one in Malaysia. He sustained fractures in his right hand and left foot.
Aprilia quickly ruled him out of the second test in Buriram, allowing him more time to recover from surgery. The hope was that he’d return for the Thai GP, albeit not in optimal condition.

But in a brutal setback, he’s now facing multiple races on the sidelines. Martin fell again as he tried to build sharpness for this weekend.
Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori will deputise for the no. 1 rider. Massimo Rivola’s hopes will mostly rest on Marco Bezzecchi, his new signing from VR46.
Bezzecchi is viewed as a potential surprise package for the upcoming season after impressing in testing. He is himself a three-time winner in the premier class.
Jorge Martin could miss up to three months with latest MotoGP injury
According to a report from AS, ‘there is talk’ among Aprilia’s chosen doctors that Martin may need three months to recover. It’s possible that he rejoins the grid earlier than that because the riders have shown that they are ‘heroes’.
Indeed, Raul Fernandez’s swift return at the Buriram Test and Fabio di Giannantonio’s imminent comeback speak to their resilience. Still, it’s ‘very unlikely’ that Martin will be back for round two in Argentina, around three weeks from now.
| NO. | RACE | DATE | STATUS |
| 1 | Thailand Grand Prix | 2 March | Ruled out |
| 2 | Argentina Grand Prix | 16 March | Doubt |
| 3 | Grand Prix of the Americas | 30 March | Unknown |
| 4 | Grand Prix of Qatar | 13 April | Unknown |
| 5 | Grand Prix of Spain | 27 April | Unknown |
| 6 | Grand Prix of France | 11 May | Unknown |
| 7 | British Grand Prix | 25 May | Unknown |
The table above shows the races he’s at risk of missing. The worst-case scenario would be an absence for seven rounds, which could severely affect Aprilia in the championship.
If the three-month timeline is accurate, he could make a comeback on home soil at the Grand Prix of Aragon on 8 June. Martin will face two medical checks before he can return.
Doctors found one worrying thing when examining Aprilia star Jorge Martin
Rivola must resist the urge to rush Martin back. Aprilia were full of excitement in Malaysia, having made a superstar signing.
But they can’t risk aggravating his injuries and doing long-term damage. Indeed, Martin is more focused on 2026 with regard to a potential title challenge, so this was always going to be an adaption year anyway.
Martin has broken one ‘particularly troublesome’ bone, doctors have found. There is little blood flow to the scaphoid, which means it takes longer to heal.
MotoGP released its opening titles for the new season at the weekend, with Martin featuring at the end as is customary for the champion. But fans could conceivably have to wait until the summer to see him in action.
