‘Sources close’ to Jorge Martin have now shared good news on Aprilia rider amid crash recovery

It has been just over one month since MotoGP reigning champion Jorge Martin suffered a brutal accident during pre-season testing in Sepang.

The Aprilia rider was thrown from his bike at high speed, fracturing multiple bones in his right hand and left foot.

Immediate surgery was carried out on Martin upon his return to Spain just days later, before he suffered a further complication and was ruled out of the Grand Prix of Thailand on February 24.

It has also been confirmed that he will miss the second race of the season in Argentina, but it’s unclear whether a comeback for the race at COTA at the end of the month is possible.

Martin’s injury was described as a ‘real mess’, having damaged his scaphoid – something which can take a particularly long time to heal properly.

Neil Hodgson warned Martin faces a ‘nightmare’ if he doesn’t allow himself to recover fully from his injuries, and that it could do damage to him long-term.

‘Sources close’ to Jorge Martin share ‘good’ news about his crash recovery

After moving away from a Ducati bike for 2025, few expected Martin to be able to retain his riders’ championship anyway.

Now that idea is completely out of the window, he has little rushing him back and could take as long as he wants before returning to the number one bike.

Lorenzo Savadori struggled in his place in Thailand, and failed to score points, while teammate Marco Bezzecchi showed some promise.

Bezzecchi is relishing the ‘pressure’ of Martin’s absence as he leads the team by himself with the Spaniard in recovery.

Motorsport.com have shared some positive news regarding his recovery, with ‘sources close’ to them sharing this update:

“The news about Jorge is good, the pain has decreased a lot and as he himself has shown on his social networks, he has been able to start exercising at home.”

Who is favourite to win the 2025 MotoGP title in Jorge Martin’s absence?

With Martin on the sidelines, there’s one less contender on the grid for race victories every weekend. Currently, it’s only between three riders.

KTM have been unable to deliver a winning bike and Pedro Acosta may struggle to show his talents as much as he deserves in 2025.

There are three riders who are all on Ducatis that can be considered as challengers for Martin’s crown at this current stage.

The factory team duo of Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia are obviously in the picture and possess the most dominant bike in the sport.

After a surprisingly electric start to the season, Gresini’s Alex Marquez is a contender too and may be able to help bring home a family one-two with Marc.
