Jorge Martin injury described as ‘real mess’ with worrying MotoGP return date prediction made

Jorge Martin has already missed the first race of the MotoGP season and will also miss the upcoming Argentina Grand Prix too.

The 27-year-old suffered a major highside on his Aprilia debut during the Sepang tests last month and was sent back to Spain for immediate surgery.

Martin looked on course for a heroic return at the Grand Prix of Thailand before he suffered a setback in his recovery.

It means he has already been ruled out of the second race of the 2025 MotoGP campaign in Argentina and could miss another Grand Prix in the United States following that.

Martin faces a nightmare if he doesn’t heal properly and it could do more damage in the long-term if he is set on rushing back.

The nature of the situation is tricky though, and it may take Martin a ‘very long time’ to heal. It’s a great shame for a man who was looking forward to riding the bike with the number one on it this year.

Jorge Martin’s hand is a ‘real mess’ and may miss more MotoGP action in 2025

Frustratingly for Aprilia, Martin’s replacement struggled at the season-opener and finished comfortably in last place.

Lorenzo Savadori is unlikely to pick up any points for them on current form, placing a heavier reliance on Marco Bezzecchi.

Bezzecchi warned Aprilia about a heat ‘problem’ in Thailand, which is going to be his issue to face over the coming races. The team’s hopes now rest on his shoulders.

Mat Oxley has now revealed just how much of a ‘mess’ Martin’s hand is in, and when he is expected to make a potential return.

“Apparently, the radius, he’s broken the scaphoid. It’s a real mess. He won’t be in Argentina in two weeks, and nobody is even sure he will be in COTA in a month,” he said.

“It’s pretty gloomy really. It has taken a real, it has taken something big out of the championship, hasn’t it?”

Why Aprilia bosses won’t be happy about the ‘real reason’ for Jorge Martin’s MotoGP crash

While Ducati are the clear front-runners in MotoGP currently, Aprilia harboured hopes of being close behind them in second this season.

The absence of their star rider has been a severe dent to their charge and may be the key difference between second and third at the end of the year.

Concession teams Yamaha and Honda have made big gains and may be a more regular threat this season, so taking advantage of every opportunity and point up for grabs will be important.

Aprilia bosses won’t be happy about Martin’s crash when they find out that he was trying to prove a point early during testing.

It was a move which may end up costing his team more than he realises at the end of the campaign.
