Nakagami made his world championship debut in the 2007 125cc Valencia Grand Prix and took his first Moto2 race start at the 2012 Qatar Grand Prix, before debuting in MotoGP at the Lusail International Circuit in 2018. Riding for LCR Honda, Nakagami scored his first premier class pole position for the 2020 Teruel Grand Prix at MotorLand Aragon.
