Jorge Martin has warned Aprilia that he will lose the lead of the championship if they do not revert to his setup from the start of 2026.
Aprilia looked in control of the championship in the early races. Martin took the lead of the standings from teammate Marco Bezzecchi after he failed to score points at Balaton Bark, Brno and Assen.
Bezzecchi pulled out of the German Grand Prix after a highside in qualifying. That left Martin as the Noale outfit’s only rider, and he struggled to keep up with the frontrunners.
Marc Marquez DOMINATES the German Grand Prix and claims his 10th MotoGP win at the Sachsenring! What was your biggest takeaway from the race?
Jorge Martin tells Aprilia to go back to his old setup or he will lose the lead of the championship
Finishing sixth in the Sprint race, Martin could only manage fifth in the German Grand Prix. He lacked the pace of the Trackhouse Aprilias, who grabbed another double podium behind race winner Marc Marquez.
Martin now leads the standings over Ai Ogura by 14 points heading into the summer break, with Marquez another four points back in P3. Bezzecchi has slipped to fourth, 22 points behind his teammate, with Fabio Di Giannantonio two points behind him in fifth.

With less than a race win’s worth of points separating the top five, Martin knows that he is under real pressure. After the German GP, he explained that he may need to go back to his old setup before he loses the lead of the championship.
He told TNT Sports 2 (12/07, 2:42 pm): “For sure, I’m happy to be leading in the summer break, it’s always special. But if I continue making races like this one, I won’t be in the lead for much longer.
“So we need to understand why I’m struggling in the last few races. I think maybe going back to the bike that I was using at the beginning of the season, I was feeling much stronger.
Our rider ratings for Germany are in, but what did we get wrong?
“So yeah, just getting a little bit more confidence, more speed and I’m pretty sure that the team can do it. The other Aprilias are working great, so there’s something that we’re not doing good, but we will find out and we will go back to our position.”
“It’s good for the show, good for the fans. It will be a big challenge to fight with the other riders until the end, and I hope to be in the fight until the end, but for that, we need to understand and fast, because if not, I won’t be able to fight for that title.”
With Marquez winning a dominant race at the Sachsenring, he is now, in many people’s eyes, the favourite for the title. Martin will be looking to hold onto his advantage, but it is clear that he is struggling compared to some of his rivals.
