MotoGP Sprint results as Marc Marquez beats Alex Marquez to win at German Grand Prix

Marc Marquez led an all-Ducati podium to win the Sprint Race at the 2026 German Grand Prix on Saturday, as his factory teammate Francesco Bagnaia only sealed P7.

Saturday’s Sprint Race at the Sachsenring was also a historic moment, as it marked the first time that MotoGP adopted its latest grid spacing. Now, the riders are set four metres apart, instead of three, as the series wants to avoid any repeats of Jorge Martin’s crash in Hungary.

A crash for Martin’s Aprilia teammate Marco Bezzecchi during qualifying for the German GP was the main talking point heading into the Sprint Race. Bezzecchi will not race in Germany after breaking his collarbone in Q2, and he will fly back to Italy as he has to undergo surgery.

Marc Marquez remains the man to beat at the German Grand Prix, but who was your rider of the Sprint race?

Bezzecchi’s absence at the Sachsenring will put a further blow in his title hopes, which have not been helped by Marc Marquez scoring pole for the German GP. The Ducati rider utilised his grid position to lead the Sachsenring Sprint Race at Turn 1, as well, and soon pulled away.

Gresini star Alex Marquez and Trackhouse ace Raul Fernandez tried to go with Ducati’s Marc Marquez at the start of the Sprint Race. But the seven-time MotoGP champion is the King of the Sachsenring for a reason, and younger brother Alex had to do all he could to be in touch.

Fernandez’s eyeline was also quickly filled by VR46 rider Fabio Di Giannantonio, as he prised P3 away on the opening lap of the Sachsenring Sprint Race. Ai Ogura, too, got ahead of his Trackhouse teammate, and he quickly appeared to be holding Fernandez back in P4 and P5.

Aprilia rider Martin, likewise, quickly found the Trackhouse gems of Ogura and Fernandez to be a roadblock hindering his hopes to extend his championship lead during the Sprint at the German GP. But Ogura soon pulled the pin and started chasing down the podium positions.

Ogura bided his time during the early stages, much like Marc Marquez was in the lead of the Sprint Race at the German GP. Marquez knew he had a golden opportunity to stake his claim for the 2026 title with Bezzecchi absent, yet his caution gave Alex Marquez hope for the win.

However, whenever Alex Marquez got close enough aboard his Gresini Ducati GP26 to think about a move, Marc Marquez etched further away on his factory Ducati GP26 in the braking zones. The margin between the two brothers frequently yo-yoed depending on the corner.

Turn 1 would be the undoing of VR46 rider Franco Morbidelli on Lap 7 of 15, though, as the Italian dropped his Ducati GP25 in the gravel and retired from the race. The German GP had already been a frustrating affair for Morbidelli, who must serve a three-place grid penalty in Sunday’s Grand Prix for riding slowly on the racing line during practice on Friday afternoon.

VR46’s hopes for a Sprint win at the German GP for Di Giannantonio also never materialised, as the Italian started to lose ground to his fellow Ducati GP26 riders Marc and Alex Marquez entering the final stages. Instead, the win seemed like a straight fight between the brothers.

Yet after more toing and froing with Alex gaining ground on Marc in some moments, before losing time once again, the battle between the Marquez siblings cooled before the final lap. Instead, Alex’s focus shifted to keeping Di Giannantonio behind and to retain second place.
