Marc Marquez has revealed that he felt ‘really uncomfortable’ during the German Grand Prix Sprint despite winning the race.

Although it was a disappointing seventh-place finish at the Dutch Grand Prix in Assen, Marquez arrived at the German Grand Prix as the firm favourite thanks to his impressive record at the Sachsenring.

On Saturday morning, Marquez secured pole position, beating Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio.

In the afternoon, Marquez won the German Grand Prix Sprint, taking the chequered flag ahead of brother Alex and Di Giannantonio.

Marc Marquez admits he ‘didn’t feel right’ during the German Grand Prix Sprint

Despite scoring maximum points ahead of Sunday’s main Grand Prix, Marquez made an honest admission when speaking to the media after the session.

The seven-time MotoGP world champion revealed that he felt ‘really uncomfortable’ during the entirety of the Sprint and added that he needs to ‘figure out why’ ahead of Sunday.

In addition, Marquez hinted that changes made for the Sprint may not have helped as he simply ‘didn’t feel right’.

As reported by the Spanish edition of Motorsport.com, Marquez said: “That’s how it is at the Sachsenring: you win, and it’s the norm.

“Now the question is why the others finished so close. They definitely had more in the tank, but I started first and set my own pace. Either way, we have to improve for tomorrow, because if we don’t, we’ll end up finishing third.

“I felt really uncomfortable the whole race; I need to figure out why. We won, but I didn’t feel right; we made changes for the sprint that didn’t seem to help—maybe because the temperature was higher.”

During TNT Sports’ live coverage of the Sprint, Neil Hodgson spotted that Marquez did not look comfortable for the whole duration of the race, saying he did not look as ‘loose’ as he normally does around the Sachsenring.

Hodgson said: “Marc has not looked comfortable for the whole race. He’s looked quite stiff on the bike; he’s not looked as loose as he normally does around here. Well, he’s looked better [in the other sessions] this weekend around here.”

Marquez went on to predict a ‘tough’ Grand Prix on Sunday and stated that he and his Ducati squad need to understand what is ‘required’ for the 30-lap event.

Although it was enough to secure victory in the Sprint, Marquez is adamant that changes and improvements need to be made before lights out on Sunday afternoon.

Marquez added: “We need to understand what’s required for tomorrow’s 30-lap race, because it’s going to be tough.

“I was maintaining a very steady pace, but the bike felt floaty—I didn’t ride the way I wanted to. Still, it was enough to get the win. We have the warm-up tomorrow to try and take a step forward.”
