Gresini Racing have confirmed that Fermin Aldeguer has withdrawn from the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix after sustaining an injury during the pre-qualifying practice session.

The 21-year-old was violently thrown about in the gravel after coming off his Gresini-branded Ducati GP25 at Turns 11 and 12 on Friday afternoon.

Is MotoGP’s growth being stunted by star riders like Alex Marquez regularly getting injured?

Aldeguer’s incident brought out yellow flags, before teammate Alex Marquez suffered a similar crash at the same complex of corners just minutes later. The session was red-flagged for several minutes as on-site doctors tended to the 30-year-old Spaniard.

Gresini later confirmed that Alex Marquez had been checked by the Assen track’s medical team and deemed not to have suffered any serious injuries. He is due to be assessed again ahead of FP2 on Saturday morning, however.

Gresini confirm Fermin Aldeguer’s withdrawal from the Dutch Grand Prix

Gresini’s involvement in the Sprint Race at the TT Circuit Assen and Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix will now be dependent on Marquez’s fitness test on Saturday.

The team have confirmed that one-time Grand Prix winner Aldeguer will not be returning to action at Assen this weekend, following his crash in Friday’s practice session.

Aldeguer was initially taken to the local hospital for further checks on his chest and back, before he was deemed unfit to compete at Assen on Saturday morning by MotoGP medical director Dr Angel Charte, having sustained a T7 vertebra fracture.

A Gresini statement announcing Aldeguer’s condition read: “Following a medical review, Fermin Aldeguer has been declared unfit by the director of the medical centre, Angel Charte. He has suffered a fracture to the T7 vertebra, which will be assessed over the next few days.”

It marks the second injury setback of 2026 for Aldeguer, who missed out on the season-opener in Thailand after fracturing the shaft of his left femur in a training session crash before the first official pre-season test.

He ended up making his return at the Brazilian Grand Prix, where he appeared in the MotoGP paddock on crutches. Still, the injury hasn’t hindered him, with Aldeguer securing a series of impressive results before his latest injury setback in the Netherlands.

A P2 finish in the Catalan Grand Prix remains Aldeguer’s best result of the campaign so far. He currently sits in P9 in the riders’ championship, with 76 points to his name after nine rounds of racing in the books.
