Gresini Racing have issued an update on the conditions of Alex Marquez and Fermin Aldeguer following their respective crashes during the pre-qualifying practice session at the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix.

In the closing stages of the timed practice session on Friday afternoon, Fermin Aldeguer brought out the first yellow flag of the session after he suffered a nasty incident between Turns 11 and 12.

Is MotoGP’s growth being stunted by star riders like Alex Marquez regularly getting injured?

The crash itself wasn’t too bad, but the resulting trip to the gravel is what caused the Spaniard some pain. The gravel trap on the outside of Turn 12 flicked Aldeguer up and into the air, before he came crashing back down again several times.

Then, with just under four minutes left on the clock, a red flag was thrown out after Alex Marquez was seen surrounded by trackside marshals at the same complex of corners.

Race control quickly indicated that the 30-year-old was conscious, but he looked to be in a spot of bother following his highside at Assen.

With Marquez steadily returning to action after shattering his collarbone and fracturing his C7 vertebrae in the Catalan Grand Prix, his latest crash piqued some concern within the MotoGP paddock.

Following the conclusion of practice at Assen, Gresini Racing soon confirmed that the Spaniard hadn’t appeared to have suffered any further serious injuries.

The team confirmed: “Alex Marquez has sustained a contusion to his right shoulder and abrasions to his left arm. The X-ray on his shoulder was negative.”

Gresini later added that his participation in the rest of the Dutch GP race weekend will be assessed ahead of FP2 on Saturday, noting: “Alex Marquez is declared to be reviewed tomorrow before FP2.”

After Marquez was checked for any injuries on Friday at Assen, Gresini also shared an update from the 2025 championship runner-up.

“Apart from the crash, it was a positive day,” Marquez said. “I was trying to push, and I made a mistake with the bike that threw me into the air.

“Luckily, I’m fine, just a few scratches, but everything is OK. The collarbone is fine, now we’ll see how I feel tomorrow morning.”

In the case of Aldeguer, Gresini confirmed that he has been taken to the hospital for further checks after sustaining more severe injuries as a result of his crash.

“Fermin Aldeguer will be transferred to the nearest hospital for further examinations on his chest and back,” the team announced.

The Murcia native began the current campaign on crutches, after fracturing the shaft of his left femur as a result of a crash on his road bike during his own personal pre-season preparations.

Aldeguer ended up missing the opening round of the season in Thailand, before returning in Brazil. He has since strung together some impressive results despite his early-season injury, including P2 in the Catalan GP following the second restart.

Marquez also showed promise during the timed practice session at the Dutch GP on Friday, and even secured an automatic Q2 place despite his crash bringing out the red flags.

He set a personal-best lap time of 1:31.701, while Aldeguer will have to go through Q1 after finishing 14th with a 1:31.861
