Marc Marquez speaks out to defend rival Marco Bezzecchi after Czech Grand Prix ban

Marc Marquez has defended Marco Bezzecchi after he was banned from the Czech Grand Prix for hitting a marshal.

The championship leader made headlines for all the wrong reasons at Brno as he was seen striking a marshal twice after crashing out of the Sprint race. Subsequently, Bezzecchi was banned from the Czech Grand Prix.

Bezzecchi formally apologised and expressed his regret to the marshal in person. It proved damaging to his title chances, as Marquez claimed victory at Brno and is now 40 points behind the Aprilia rider.

Marquez has taken 62 points out of Bezzecchi’s lead since his injury problems at Le Mans. The Czech GP was the latest hammer blow to the Italian’s title chances.

But Paolo Bonora says Bezzecchi is still focused and not worried about Marquez’s form as he watched the race from the sidelines.

His penalty has caused much debate in the paddock and online, but Marquez came to his rival’s defence over the incident.

Speaking via Speedweek, the Ducati rider says that Bezzecchi was ‘frustrated’ and full of adrenaline, and that he would ‘learn’ from the ordeal.

“The topic is already causing a lot of excitement on social media. That’s why I don’t want to comment on it in too much detail,” he said.

“These things can happen. We’re still young and learning a lot in front of millions of people. He was under the influence of adrenaline and extremely frustrated after the crash. But he’ll learn from it.

“We learn something new every day. Many of us are between 20 and 30 years old. Accordingly, there are still many things in life that we have to learn.”
