Ai Ogura stole the headline at the end of the timed practice session at the 2026 Czech Grand Prix with a new all-time Brno lap record, after Marc Marquez crashed on Friday.
The benchmark pace from just one year ago was obliterated during the pre-qualifying timed practice session at Brno this Friday. Marquez led the way as part of a small group of riders to set lap times in the 1:51s, miles faster than the Ducati racer had managed earlier to top FP1.
On Friday morning, Marquez set the pace in FP1 at the Czech GP with a benchmark lap time around Brno of 1:53.303. That time proved to be no challenge in the timed practice session, with Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi the first rider to smash the benchmark that Marquez had set.

Despite topping the FP1 timesheet earlier on Friday at the Czech GP, Marc Marquez finished the session walking back to the Ducati garage after a late Turn 7 crash. Crashes in practice have been a hallmark of the Spaniard’s career, though, and another followed this afternoon.

As Marquez looked to find his groove after the opening 10 minutes of FP1 at Brno, Marquez visited the gravel trap at Turn 11 and wrecked the left-hand side of his Ducati GP26. A small moment in the middle of the corner made Marquez fold his front tyre and slide off the road.
While Marquez made his way around Brno’s service roads for the second time on Friday, the early pace in the timed practice session at the Czech GP was being set by Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi. The championship leader set a 1:53.080, after penning a 1:54.194 for P16 in FP1.
KTM star Pedro Acosta soon brought the marker down further, too, as he set a 1:53.002. He did not stay top of the order for long, however, as Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez became the first rider to dip into the 1:52s with 35 minutes to go, after setting a 1:52.862 on the Aprilia.
A Trackhouse one-two was even on the cards, as Ai Ogura took his satellite Aprilia RS-GP to P1 with a 1:52.718. Yet even his time would not stay first for long, as Bezzecchi powered his factory Aprilia to set a new all-time MotoGP lap record for Brno with a 1:52.275 in practice.
Ducati racer Francesco Bagnaia scored pole for the 2025 Czech GP with MotoGP’s previous lap record for Brno at 1:52.303. Yet it must be noted that Marquez was on a faster lap time before the Spaniard crashed at the end of Q2 and would have beaten Bagnaia’s best effort.
KTM Tech3 star Maverick Vinales became the first rider to disrupt the Aprilia dominance at the top of the order with 23 minutes to go, as the Spaniard put his satellite RC16 in P2 on a 1:52.577. Gresini ace Fermin Aldeguer also started to find pace on his satellite Ducati GP25.
A KTM was then on top as Acosta reclaimed P1 with a 1:52.228 with 17 minutes to go. But just as quickly as Acosta lapped Brno, he faced trouble as the KTM ace was left pushing his bike down a service road after encountering technical issues as smoke even exited his bike.
The issue left Acosta out of the groove as the first flurry of flying times came, with Marquez becoming the first rider in the 1:51s with a 1:51.988 shortly after Ducati teammate Bagnaia blew a quick lap with a mistake at the end. Ogura soon joined Marquez with a 1:51.998 lap.
Fine margins continued to separate the top riders as the final flying runs began, too, but the marker no longer belonged to Marquez as VR46’s Fabio Di Giannantonio set a 1:51.942 with his satellite Ducati GP26. Bezzecchi would have his say, though, as he posted a 1:51.816 lap.
Yet even Bezzecchi’s time was still not enough to end the day on top, as Ogura took over at the top entering the final minute with a 1:51.735 whilst Honda’s Joan Mir walked out of the gravel at Turn 7. Mir tried forcing his Honda into the left-hander, but the bike refused to go.
