Alex Marquez has revealed that he is suffering from a physical problem ahead of his injury return, something his brother, Marc, also went through earlier this season.

Alex, 30, suffered a huge crash at the Barcelona Grand Prix last month, which also involved KTM rider Pedro Acosta.

The Gresini rider was left with fractures in his clavicle and vertebrae, forcing him to miss races in Mugello and Hungary.

This week, it was announced that Alex would return for Gresini at the Czech Grand Prix.

Alex Marquez admits he has the same physical problem as Marc Marquez

Taking to his YouTube channel, Alex provided behind-the-scenes access to his road to full recovery.

Speaking in the video, Alex stated that he has had to work on rebuilding his muscles and strength after his injury, something his brother Marc had to go through after his own injury.

Alex said: “The first week I had to stay in bed. The second week I started to move, but I couldn’t do physio or anything because of the neck, vertebrae and all that.

“The third week I started to move, and I pushed myself a bit then because otherwise I would have been stuck. All my joints and everything were very, very, very still.

“So then the fourth week, from the third to the fourth, and now what will be the fifth, I’ve improved a lot.

“But it’s true that in terms of strength is where I’m lacking a bit. Especially in the shoulder because the joints, when they’re still for a while, the muscles…”

Marc suffered a big crash at Le Mans, which resulted in surgery to fix his troublesome shoulder and an injury to his foot.

Seven-time MotoGP world champion Marc returned for the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello, but admitted that he was not 100% fit as he continues to rebuild strength.

The 33-year-old also added that he had to push himself to test how far he could take his body, stating his goal was to ‘rebuild my arm’.

Marc said to DAZN at the time: “I’ll have to be patient; it’s something I’ve learned, although I knew I had to take risks in practice. The goal now is to rebuild my arm.

“Now, we have to see where the limit is for this arm, which has had seven operations from the elbow to the shoulder.”
