Davide Tardozzi says ‘every other rider’ would have quit MotoGP with Marc Marquez’s injuries

Marc Marquez produced another comeback from injury in MotoGP after grabbing a clean sweep at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Davide Tardozzi insists everyone would have quit in his position.

The crash at Mandalika in 2025 proved to be more serious than previously feared, as the Spaniard was suffering from nerve problems with a loose screw in his right arm. Marquez kept it secret from Ducati before he fractured his foot in a crash at Le Mans.

Returning to the grid at Mugello, everyone had Marquez as the favourite at the Hungarian Grand Prix, as the anti-clockwise layout would give him less strain on his right arm. Sure enough, the 33-year-old claimed pole position and the win in both races.

Davide Tardozzi says any other riders would have stopped with Marc Marquez’s injuries

Marquez’s win marked a superb return to form, with the Ducati rider claiming his and the team’s 100th career victory. It also put to bed any doubts about him, as many had questioned his long-term future.

Andrea Dovizioso said Marquez would have to retire if his injury problems did not improve. Likewise, Neil Hodgson foresaw Marquez retiring in 2026, but his determination saw him return to the grid and reclaim the top spot.

Tardozzi admitted after the race that Marquez has been managing a ‘huge problem’ for the past few months. He had not scored a Grand Prix podium before the Hungarian GP.

Speaking to TNT Sports 2, Tardozzi even said that ‘every other rider’ in the same position would have quit the sport.

The Ducati team manager said: “Yeah, I think in the future he can have a good moment, but in the end, he’s always able to manage. And trust me, if I tell you, he’s [been] managing a huge problem in the last couple of months.

“As he said, and I would like to underline, somebody else with his problem, his career, whatever he had in the last 15 years, already quit. He is looking forward to another championship. I mean, every other rider in the world in his condition would have stopped.”

Hodgson doubted that Marquez would win again after his latest crash and injuries. But now that he has his 100th victory, he can think about fighting for the championship, as he sits 72 points behind Marco Bezzecchi.
