Neil Hodgson thinks Pramac’s Toprak Razgatlioglu crashed into Ai Ogura in FP1 at the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix as he got “caught out” by misjudging the Trackhouse ace.
Razgatlioglu arrived at Balaton Park with lofty ambitions of securing his first top 10 finish as a MotoGP rider in Sunday’s Hungarian GP, having enjoyed his visit to the circuit last year in the World Superbike Championship. He won all three of the WSBK races at Balaton Park in 2025.
The 29-year-old even scored Superpole at the 2025 World Superbike round at Balaton Park, amid his run of 13 consecutive wins for BMW. Yamaha had already announced that they had signed Razgatlioglu to move to MotoGP with Pramac in 2026 before WSBK visited Hungary.

Toprak Razgatlioglu misjudged Ai Ogura’s braking in their FP1 crash at Balaton Park
Razgatlioglu has had a challenging start in MotoGP, as he has had to learn most of the tracks as well as adapting to Yamaha’s new-for-2026 V4 bike and Michelin tyres. He is yet to finish a Grand Prix higher than the P13 that he secured in France for three of his four points so far.

Friday’s first practice session at Balaton Park did not start too well for Razgatlioglu, either, as he crashed into the back of Ogura. Hodgson feels Razgatlioglu just misjudged when Ogura intended to brake, and thus the Pramac pilot needed to take full responsibility for the crash.
Hodgson said on TNT Sports 2 (05/06, 09:48): “Oh, that was so close there. Toprak’s run into the back of Ai Ogura in one of these really tight chicanes. It’s started already.
“Ai Ogura is looking back going, ‘What are you doing?’ It’s always going to be Toprak’s fault in that situation. It’s the man behind who has got all the information, and he’s just gone in a bit hot.
“The problem is, if someone brakes a little bit earlier than earlier than you’re expecting, you can get caught out with it, and that’s what we’ve just seen happen.”

Razgatlioglu was quick to hold his hand up and apologise to Ogura for their early incident in FP1 at the Hungarian GP, which broke a small piece off the rear end of the Trackhouse star’s Aprilia RS-GP. The incident ultimately did not have a major effect on either of their sessions.
Ogura went on to finish FP1 with the seventh-fastest lap time, ahead of both factory Aprilia riders. Razgatlioglu even finished 10th in FP1 at the Hungarian GP, as Marc Marquez set the pace with a 1:38.626, as the quickest Yamaha rider ahead of factory racer Fabio Quartararo.
Razgatlioglu saw out FP1 with a time within 0.772s of Marquez’s benchmark, putting him in a strong position to potentially fulfil his aims. Given his “love” for Balaton Park, Razgatlioglu is targeting a top 10 in the Hungarian GP as he feels the circuit’s stop-start layout suits him.
