Toprak Razgatlioglu admits Fabio Quartararo’s data proves ‘I do the opposite’ of what’s needed

Toprak Razgatlioglu has admitted that he does ‘the opposite’ of what is needed after looking at Fabio Quartararo’s data.

Razgatlioglu, 29, is competing in his first MotoGP season after joining Prima Pramac Racing ahead of 2026. He became the first Turkish rider in the competition’s history.

Since then, Razgatlioglu has scored four points, two more than his Pramac teammate Jack Miller.

Speaking recently, Razgatlioglu admitted that he has realised that he is doing the complete opposite of what is required after looking at the data of Quartararo, who rides for the factory Yamaha team.

Toprak Razgatlioglu admits Fabio Quartararo’s data proves ‘I do the opposite’ of what’s needed

The Turkish rider stated that he has to improve his driving style, especially on the soft tyre, in order to maintain more speed through the corners, something he is finding ‘very difficult’.

Razgatlioglu said to Italian news outlet Moto. It: “I’m looking at Fabio’s data, and with the soft, he maintains much more speed through the corners. I try, but now it’s very difficult.

“However, I think that when I talk about it with my crew chief, he also agrees that it’s true. When I put on the soft, my mentality immediately changes.

“I ride a bit like a Superbike, always looking for grip and corner exit. With this Michelin, you have to maintain more speed through the corners and open the throttle more gently.

“I do the opposite: I turn, lift the bike, and open the throttle wide to look for acceleration. I have to change my style a bit with the soft because it’s very important.

“In qualifying, if you set the time and start in front, you stay with the leading group. But if you start behind, it’s not easy to get ahead. I realised that this weekend.”

Toprak Razgatlioglu ‘happy’ with performances on medium tyres

Although there is work to be done on the soft tyres, Razgatlioglu did say that he is happy with the medium tyres.

He also touched on Quartararo’s ability to maintain pace during the race on the soft tyres.

Razgatlioglu continued: “I’m happy with the medium because we’re very close to the other Yamahas, and I’m also satisfied with the pace. But we have to improve a lot with the soft because qualifying is crucial. We have to start in front.

“Fabio is doing a great job with the soft, especially on the first or second lap. But then, even in the race, he manages to maintain the pace because he’s in the group ahead.

“I have to learn this riding style with the soft. Sometimes I forget to maintain speed through the corners with the soft. With the medium everything is fine, with the soft it’s difficult.”
