Alex Marquez has admitted that he doesn’t trust his win last time out at the Spanish Grand Prix as he looks to get confirmation of Ducati’s improvements to the GP26 at Le Mans this weekend.
The Gresini rider snatched Ducati’s first win of 2026 at Jerez a fortnight ago, following a start to the season that has seen Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi reside on the top step of the podium in all three of the first three Grands Prix.
Who is the most overrated rider on the 2026 MotoGP grid?
It was a classy performance from Marquez to get the job done for Borgo Panigale. After taking his maiden MotoGP victory at the Circuito de Jerez last year, he was able to replicate his race-winning form to open his account for the current campaign.
Ducati brought a swathe of upgrades to the Spanish Grand Prix in hopes of turning their fortunes around in the constructors’ championship. While it’s easy to assume they worked due to Marquez’s prowess, the Spaniard is still seeking further confirmation.

Alex Marquez admits ‘I don’t trust’ Jerez win ahead of French Grand Prix
During Marquez’s media duties on Thursday afternoon at the Le Mans-based Bugatti Circuit, he outlined his intentions for the ensuing race weekend.
“I’m coming into this weekend in good shape after winning for the first time this year, but we’re approaching it with the same mentality and the idea of giving our all, as always,” Marquez told journalists via Motorsport Italia.
“Winning doesn’t change anything when it comes to focusing on a weekend that will be important to understand if the victory two weeks ago was a fluke, or if we can maintain that momentum.”
Did Marc Marquez end his title hopes at Jerez or was it just a blip?
“Going to different tracks and seeing what works and what doesn’t gives us a clear indication. This year, it will be interesting to see what level we’re at and if the feeling from Jerez is repeated and if we can maintain it until the end of the year.
“It’s not that I don’t trust what we saw in Jerez, but the feeling changed too much from the previous races, Brazil and Austin, compared to what we experienced in Jerez.
“There were some changes, but not that big, so I don’t trust such a large improvement and we have to confirm it this weekend.”

Marc Marquez was wowed by Alex Marquez’s riding at Jerez
The top step of the podium in Jerez was dominated by the Marquez brothers, with Marc taking the plaudits in Saturday’s Sprint, while Alex took home glory from the Grand Prix.
Despite his victory in Sunday’s proceedings, the Gresini rider remains behind his older brother in the championship standings, with Marc currently holding a four-point advantage over him thanks to his prowess in the shorter format races.
However, that didn’t stop Alex from wowing the seven-time world champion during Sunday’s longer format melee.
Alex detailed how he had felt comfortable ‘all weekend’ at Jerez, while also noting how Marc was in disbelief over the advantage he kept gaining at turn eight.
Another strong weekend at Le Mans will ensure that Alex remains a keen competitor in the landscape of the championship. If not, he risks being left behind as Aprilia continue to assert their dominance over the rest of the premier class.
