Marc Marquez was ‘wowed’ by Alex Marquez’s riding after following him at the Spanish Grand Prix

Marc Marquez was in awe of his brother, Alex Marquez, and the way he was riding all weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix.

For Alex Marquez, the weekend in Jerez ended brilliantly, as he managed to earn his second consecutive win at the Spanish Grand Prix.

However, the win will be slightly bittersweet for him, as his older brother, Marc Marquez, crashed out of the race early on.

Marco Bezzecchi and Alex Marquez say it was ‘really windy’ at turn 11. Was that the reason Marc Marquez crashed?

Alex thought Marc’s data at Jerez was strange, as he was losing more time than he usually has during any race weekend this season so far.

But Marc Marquez didn’t let his struggles this weekend cloud his assessment of Alex’s strong performance at Jerez.

Alex Marquez reveals how he stunned Marc Marquez during Spanish Grand Prix weekend

In an interview with Spanish outlet El Periodico, Alex Marquez revealed that he came into the Spanish Grand Prix weekend fully confident in his improvements as a rider.

So much so, that his performance even left Marc Marquez impressed, as he wondered how he was able to complete some of the tougher turns at Jerez with such ease.

“Until last year, I wasn’t doing too well there, to be honest. This year I’ve improved a lot, especially on the entry to turn four, which I couldn’t seem to master.

“According to Marc, who followed me for a couple of laps yesterday, I took turn eight like crazy.

“He even said, ‘Wow! I don’t know how you do it.’ Well, yeah, I’ve got a good feeling about it, and I’ve felt very comfortable all weekend.”

Alex Marquez reveals his plan was to ‘pull away’ from Marc Marquez

Speaking further in the interview, Alex Marquez revealed that his overtake on Marc Marquez in the second lap of the race was always the plan, as he targeted a win early on.

“I know many people, including my brother Marc, kept telling me, ‘Come on, your race is coming up,’ but the start of this season had been a bit strange, to say the least, so this victory is fantastic.

“I got off to a good start, halfway through the first lap I was already in second place, and I immediately latched onto Marc and didn’t hesitate to try and overtake him because, I repeat, the plan was to pull away. Or at least try to.”

Marc’s deficit to Alex in pace was a significant talking point throughout the weekend in Jerez. So to see the young rider pass his brother in the race so early was not a surprise.

Of course, the crash early in the race prevented fans from seeing a potential battle between the two brothers come down to the wire.

But given how much more dominant Alex looked this weekend, perhaps the battle between the two may not have been close at all.
