Marco Bezzecchi gave his thoughts on racing on the Adelaide Street Circuit and what challenges it poses for MotoGP.
There has been a lot of talk about MotoGP’s decision to move the Australian Grand Prix from Phillip Island to the Adelaide Street Circuit from 2027.
Phillip Island is one of MotoGP’s most iconic circuits, with the sport having a rich history on the track, including some of the biggest moments in MotoGP history.

But under the new ownership of Liberty Media, MotoGP decided to move the race to the Adelaide Street Circuit.
There are concerns that Adelaide isn’t fit to host a MotoGP race, as the track was not designed for the sport. And while Marco Bezzecchi is excited to race there, he has his concerns about it.

Marco Bezzecchi admits losing Phillip Island as a MotoGP track is a pity ahead of Adelaide Street Circuit move
In an interview appearance on Speed, Marco Bezzecchi was asked about his thoughts on MotoGP moving the Australian Grand Prix from Phillip Island to the Adelaide Street Circuit.
While the Aprilia rider did lament losing Phillip Island, given its significance as a MotoGP track, he was excited about racing in Adelaide, even though there are concerns about the track and safety.
“It’s a pity not to go to Phillip Island anymore. As you said, it’s a wonderful and historic track. It’s very beautiful to ride. But in the end, it’s also super cool to reach new cities, and we will go to Adelaide.
“It looks fantastic. Racing in the city with bikes will not be easy, and I’m sure that they will organise everything in the best way possible to maintain and keep safety as the first target.
“We will try to make our last dance on Phillip Island in the best way possible. Then we will try to go to Adelaide and make a good first dance.”

Some fans believe MotoGP used Adelaide as a red herring to justify moving away from Phillip Island, in an effort to try and expand the sport further.
Carmelo Ezpeleta hinted Phillip Island was a safety hazard when justifying the move to the Adelaide Street Circuit in 2027.
However, given Bezzecchi’s comments, along with many other experts, there seems to be a similar safety concern when it comes to Adelaide as well.
Perhaps MotoGP opted to move their race to Adelaide in order to attract new eyeballs to the sport. The Adelaide Street Circuit is one of the most iconic tracks in Supercars, the most popular motorsport domestically within Australia.
For MotoGP, a move to a more popular and fan-friendly track like Adelaide could boost their popularity, but could also put their riders at risk.
