Yamaha see Izan Guevara as another Fabio Quartararo with 2027 factory seat possible

Yamaha are considering giving Izan Guevara a MotoGP factory seat in 2027 amid excitement over his potential, according to a report. The Japanese manufacturer could reshuffle their line-ups at the end of the year.

Fabio Quartararo is heading to Honda and the signs are that Alex Rins’ deal will not be renewed. That leaves two vacancies at the official team, one of which is likely to be filled by Jorge Martin.

There is talk that Toprak Razgatlioglu could be promoted from satellite squad Pramac to partner Martin, but Motorpasion Moto are receiving different signals from Yamaha.

Izan Guevara could benefit from Toprak Razgatlioglu’s hesitation over Yamaha seat

The report states that Yamaha’s preference is indeed to call up Razgatlioglu, but the Turkish rider is resisting the idea. He’s comfortable at Pramac and would like to stay for another season.

This could open the door for Guevara to get the seat alongside Martin, with no obvious alternative. Jack Miller is likely battling to hold on to his Pramac seat, rather than seriously pushing for a factory spot.

Guevara only scored his first Moto2 podium at last year’s Indonesian GP, but has now managed four in his last eight starts, including a maiden victory in the class in Valencia.

Having started the year with a P2, P6 and a P3, he is second in the standings behind Manuel Gonzalez. Though his record since winning the 2022 Moto3 title has largely been underwhelming, Yamaha see him ‘as a potential success story like Quartararo’s’.

They believe he has ‘explosive’ potential in the premier class, even if they acknowledge that his results in recent years have been ‘decent but unremarkable’.

Quartararo was a middling rider in Moto2 and Moto3 and only won one race before his 2019 promotion. By the end of his third MotoGP season, he was the world champion.

Izan Guevara is the surprise winner from Honda’s rumoured Tech3 deal

Honda could expand to six bikes next year if negotiations with Tech3, currently a KTM satellite team, are successful.

In addition to Quartararo, Honda are signing David Alonso, a deal that appeared to force out incumbent factory duo Joan Mir and Luca Marini (Johann Zarco and Diogo Moreira are under contract at LCR).

However, if Honda have two extra spots available, then at least one of Marini and Mir could stay in the fold.

Marini has been strongly linked with Yamaha, but if he is offered another contract by Honda, it could be the stroke of ‘luck’ that Guevara needs.
