Joan Mir now faces an uncertain future in MotoGP as Honda are expected to replace the 2020 champion, but Trackhouse team principal Davide Brivio may be his saviour.
Mir joined Honda on the back of Suzuki withdrawing from MotoGP at the end of 2022, but it has not delivered a very happy spell in the Spaniard’s premier class career. The 28-year-old has only finished 40.6% of his 59 Grand Prix races for Honda after a massive 35 retirements.
A whopping 31 of Mir’s 35 Grand Prix retirements since he joined Honda have also been the result of crashing out of races. He has not even finished a Grand Prix so far this term, having started 2026 with three successive retirements, also including crashes in Brazil and the USA.
Mir declared that he has “zero regrets” about pushing the Honda RC213V past its limits after he crashed out of the United States Grand Prix while targeting a top-six finish. It was also his second crash of the weekend, having retired from the Sprint at COTA while eyeing a podium.

Trackhouse boss Davide Brivio absolutely wants to sign Honda’s Joan Mir for 2027
Crashing so regularly on the Honda seems to have pushed the Japanese brand to let Mir go at the end of his contract this year. It is an open secret that Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo is set to join Honda in 2027, and it is also now thought that Honda are set to sign David Alonso.

Mir and teammate Luca Marini are both out of contract with the factory Honda team at the end of the 2026 MotoGP season. Many in the MotoGP paddock are convinced that Marini is joining Yamaha in 2027, while Mir may find his landing spot on the 2027 grid in Trackhouse.
That is according to GPOne, which reports that Trackhouse team principal Brivio ‘absolutely’ wants to sign Mir, ahead of his Honda contract expiring. Mir’s agent has recently shut down speculation of a move to Trackhouse, but Brivio is still believed to be pushing for the switch.
Brivio knows what Mir can provide Trackhouse with, as he was in charge of Suzuki when the Spaniard won the 2020 MotoGP riders’ title. Trackhouse are also currently in the market for new riders for 2027, as Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez are also both out of contract this year.
It is said that Trackhouse will do everything they can to re-sign Ogura for 2027, which could put Fernandez on the market if Brivio were to sign Mir. But it would be unusual if Mir were to replace Fernandez with Trackhouse, as the Spaniards are represented by the same agent.
