Joan Mir’s agent, Paco Sanchez, has shared his surprise after a recent report claimed the Honda star is now close to reaching an agreement to join Trackhouse from 2027.

The 28-year-old faces an uncertain future on the grid, as he is due to be out of contract with Honda following the 2026 MotoGP season. Mir has ridden for the factory Honda team since 2023, after agreeing to join the Japanese giant after Suzuki withdrew from the premier class.

Questions over Mir’s future have also only grown with the widely held belief in the paddock that Honda have signed Fabio Quartararo for 2027. The Yamaha ace is expected to defect to the Iwata outfit’s Tokyo rivals, thus leaving at least one of Mir or Luca Marini without a ride.

Trackhouse also have decisions to make over their rider line-up beyond the end of this year. The satellite Aprilia squad currently field Raul Fernandez and Ai Ogura, who even both have contracts only with Trackhouse, but the Spanish and Japanese stars are also out of contract.

Trackhouse’s plans for their 2027 rider line-up have largely appeared uncertain, despite the MotoGP rider market moving very quickly this year. But a report emerged earlier this week that said Honda’s Mir is in the final stages of agreeing a two-year contract with Trackhouse.

It was also suggested that Trackhouse have pursued Mir’s signature at the express wish of their team manager, Davide Brivio, who worked with the Spaniard at Suzuki when he won the 2020 MotoGP riders’ title. Also, it was claimed that Mir is most likely to replace Fernandez.

But Sanchez, who is the agent of both Mir and Fernandez, has now taken to social media to shut down the suggestions that the Honda rider is set to take over his Spanish compatriot’s Trackhouse bike. Sanchez was not even aware of the rumour until he saw it on social media.

“It’s curious that, being the representative of Joan and Raul, I have to find out about this signing on social media!” Sanchez posted on X.

“Now that Joan’s ‘sorted’, all it takes is for another shrewd operator to ‘place’ Raul on another team and I’ll be off on vacation in Rio de Janeiro.”

It remains to be seen what plans Sanchez has in mind for Mir and Fernandez’s futures in MotoGP, given their respective contracts at Honda and Trackhouse are due to expire this year. Fernandez’s future at Trackhouse is thought to be in doubt, despite his recent form.

Previous reports have suggested that Honda have not closed the door on re-signing Mir to partner with Quartararo in 2027. But the Tokyo crew want to see the Spaniard’s motivation levels in the early stages of the 2026 season, as well as what he produces on the RC213V.
