Pedro Acosta has long been compared to Marc Marquez since stepping up to MotoGP, and he dreams of sharing a garage with him.

Acosta hates being called ‘the next Marquez’ as he wants to make a name for himself in the premier class. With 11 podiums from 42 starts, he has certainly proven himself to be a top talent, even if his maiden MotoGP win still eludes him.

His lack of victories, however, has got the 21-year-old thinking about his future. In 2025, Acosta was heavily linked with VR46 as he tried to break his KTM contract, but a move was denied as a transfer fee could not be agreed.

VR46 remained interested in Acosta for the 2027 season, with many top talents looking to secure their next deal early. Indeed, the MotoGP rider market moved fast, and the Spaniard is said to have got his contract.

Rossi failed to get his man, with Acosta set to join the factory Ducati team. Marquez is believed to have renewed his contract with the Borgo Panigale outfit, giving them a top Spanish rider line-up.

Pedro Acosta says it would be a ‘dream come true’ to be Marc Marquez’s teammate

Rider announcements are being delayed until Dorna can reach a deal with the manufacturers and teams over the new Concorde Agreement. As that happens, riders are keeping tight-lipped on the rumours of 2027 transfers.

But it is widely understood that Ducati will have Marquez and Acosta on their factory red bikes next season, and the latter, while not confirming his move to Borgo Panigale, admits that it is a ‘dream’ to partner with the former.

Speaking to AS at the United States Grand Prix, Acosta was told about Kevin Schwantz’s statement that he and Marquez would be a ‘dream team’ at Ducati. In response, he said: “Time will tell.”

Asked if that is true, he replied: “I don’t know about him. But for me, definitely. It’s not every day you get to be on the other side of the pit box of a nine-time world champion, or whoever he is at the time. For me, it would certainly be a dream come true.

“In the end, I think quite a few people in this paddock, apart from maybe his brother, would pay to spend a year alongside Marc as a teammate. Why wouldn’t I?”

Is Marc Marquez threatened by Pedro Acosta?

Many people are already talking up the Marquez-Acosta partnership in 2027, and some even think the pair could clash at Ducati, with the latter being keen to beat the former and win the championship.

Marquez knows Acosta is a threat in 2026, having led the championship after the opening round of the season. On equal machinery, the 21-year-old could be a real danger to the Ant of Cervera.

Alex Barros wonders if Marc Marquez will continue in MotoGP as Acosta’s teammate. If the young Spaniard gets the better of him in 2027, it may bring the end of his compatriot’s career.

Marco Melandri thinks Marquez will retire to avoid being Acosta’s teammate. Only time will tell how the duo will get on as Ducati teammates.
