MotoGP fans have shared their opinions after the MotoGP Sprint Race at the Brazilian Grand Prix was delayed due to a sinkhole.
The Sprint Race at the first Brazilian Grand Prix since 1992 has been delayed following the discovery of a sinkhole on the start and finish straight after the MotoGP Qualifying session.
Ahead of the Moto3 bikes heading out on track for their Qualifying session, there were delays announced due to ‘track conditions’.
However, it later came to light that the delays were due to the sinkhole that had opened off of the racing line on the start finish straight at the Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna (Goiânia).
In the end the track surface was fixed and the MotoGP bikes were able to go out on track and complete the first Sprint race in Brazil.

MotoGP fans call for the Sprint Race to be cancelled
MotoGP fans took to social media across Reddit and Facebook to share their thoughts about the delays and the sinkhole itself.
There were mixed views regarding the Brazilian Grand Prix being run at the wrong time of the year as March is the end of Brazil’s wet season, and calls for the Sprint Race to be cancelled altogether.
It was a first for many fans, as one person said, “Disrupted by a what now?”
One commenter also suggested hosting the Brazilian Grand Prix in March was a mistake, “When will people learn that you don’t schedule races in Brazil in late March. That’s the end of summer when there is always heavy rainfall, F1 used to have the same issues until they decided to move it to November.”
Another commenter called for the Sprint Race to be cancelled, “Just cancel the sprint for this weekend and do the races tomorrow like the good old days.”
With a repaired patch, one person mentioned how the new surface will feel, “I worry the riders hitting the repaired patch on the straight is going to feel like hitting a speed bump at 300km/h”
After MotoGP revealed they intend to run the Sprint Race a fan said, “They’re actually doing it? I just hope everyone stays safe.”

Marc Marquez took victory in the MotoGP Sprint Race
After lengthy delays, the MotoGP Sprint race at the Autódromo Internacional Ayrton Senna (Goiânia) got underway with a fixed surface at the start and finish straight.
Fabio di Giannantonio started the Sprint race from pole position for the VR46 Racing Team and held onto the lead for the majority of the race. However, with three laps to go, the Italian made a mistake and lost the lead to Marc Marquez.
Once Marquez made his way into the lead there was no looking back, after being denied victory in the Sprint Race at the Thailand Grand Prix, Marquez was not going to be denied again and held off di Giannantonio.
Marquez took his first Sprint Race victory of the 2026 season, but was closely followed by di Giannantonio in second place, and Jorge Martin found himself in third place and got his first Sprint podium with Aprilia.
