Jorge Martin would have been a better signing for Honda than Fabio Quartararo according to Peter Bom.
Honda’s decision to sign Fabio Quartararo instead of Jorge Martin has been questioned by figures within the MotoGP paddock.
Martin made the decision to leave Ducati at the end of the 2024 MotoGP season and signed for Aprilia on a two-year deal for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. However, the Spaniard attempted to leave Aprilia at the conclusion of the 2025 season.
With bridges burnt between Martin and Aprilia, the 2024 MotoGP World Champion will leave the Italian manufacturer come the end of the 2026 season. However, it is believed he will sign for Yamaha, after being overlooked by Honda.

Peter Bom believes Jorge Martin would be more ‘successful’ at Honda
During a Q&A session for the Oxley Bom MotoGP Podcast, Peter Bom discussed Honda’s decision to sign Quartararo over Martin for the 2027 season.
Martin has decided that he would leave Aprilia at the end of the 2026 season, and has reportedly signed for Yamaha for next season, after Quartararo’s decision to leave Yamaha for Honda.
But Bom believes that Honda have made the wrong decision, as he believes Martin would be more ‘successful’ than Quartararo at Honda.
Bom said, “I was expecting him at Honda, but Honda could get Fabio, which is the better deal. But I would get both, because the way Jorge Martin can ride a bike, he has more chance of being successful on a Honda than Fabio. But we have never seen Fabio on any other bike.
“If he really ends up at Yamaha there would be some justification the way he treated Aprilia since he came there. The way he sabotaged his career last year, then tried to walk away from them whilst having a contract.
“If he ends up at Yamaha, there is a God, but I don’t wish him bad.”
