BMW had been rumoured to enter MotoGP for the 2027 season after buying data from Suzuki.
For years, there has been speculation that BMW will enter MotoGP, but the German manufacturer has never made its way across from Superbikes to MotoGP.
A new manufacturer has not entered MotoGP since the 2017 season, when Austrian manufacturer KTM joined the sport with the RC16 and the backing of Red Bull.
However, since Suzuki left MotoGP at the end of the 2022 season, there have only been five manufacturers in the series, compared to the higher number in the past.

BMW will not enter MotoGP within the near future
During a Q&A session with the Oxley Bom MotoGP Podcast, Mat Oxley and Peter Bom were asked whether BMW will be joining MotoGP in the coming years.
However, the pair both believed that the German manufacturer would not enter MotoGP, even after they acquired data from Suzuki when they departed the series.
Oxley said, “I wrote something about that a couple of years ago, you get tipoffs from people, you believe some people, and you don’t believe other people. I am 99.9% sure, BMW are not coming to MotoGP.”
Bom added, “No, they are BMW, so you can’t trust them. They can come in with 100 million, buy every man and his dog, and then leave after two years, with zero points or success.
“You don’t know, they could stay for 10 years, you don’t know. Look at the history of how they have done in World Superbikes or Formula 1. In a way, they are a very unreliable company. If they wanted, they could do something.
“Since I live in North Europe, I hear stuff that has to do with it, and my understanding is that there was Suzuki info available to BMW, and they were really, really, really close to doing it.
“But in the end, it is BMW, so it was a no, and I don’t see them coming back from these steps.”

BMW acquired MotoGP data from Suzuki
In 2024, BMW had reportedly bought MotoGP data from Suzuki, which started speculation that the German manufacturer would enter the series in 2027.
Since the 2009 season, BMW have been back in the World Superbike paddocks, and won titles in the series with Toprak Razgatlioglu in 2024 and 2025.
Their success in the series saw more speculation that the German manufacturer would be tempted to enter MotoGP amid the speculation regarding Toprak Razgatlioglu’s desire to race in MotoGP.
However, the data has not been used by BMW to enter MotoGP, and instead the manufacturer remains in World Superbikes with former MotoGP rider, Miguel Oliveira and Danilo Petrucci among their ranks.
