Diogo Moreira was lucky enough to benefit from the wisdom of Marc Marquez in the lead-up to his full debut in the premier class last weekend, and has detailed how important the Spaniard was to his pre-season preparations.

When it comes to the best riders on the grid to ease the next generation of MotoGP superstars into life in the premier class, Marc Marquez stands alone at the very top.

The Ant of Cervera is easily the most successful and well-versed rider who currently still competes, and for Diogo Moreira, he’s been the perfect man to shadow.

The young Brazilian has regularly trained with his factory Ducati star over the years, and his talents haven’t gone unnoticed at all.

In fact, Moreira has been told that he’s the only rider who can compete with Marquez when it comes to riding Supermoto bikes, a popular form of training for all riders on the grid.

Upon receiving several offers from MotoGP outfits during his title-winning campaign in Moto2 last year, Moreira also sought advice from the Spaniard on which team he should sign for.

Marquez vouched for Honda in the end, given his highly successful history with the Japanese constructor at the start of his own premier class career.

Diogo Moreira praises mentor Marc Marquez for helping him make a ‘huge step’ before MotoGP debut

During an interview alongside Marquez and Moto2 talent Jose Antonio Rueda at a sponsor event, Moreira delved into the help he received from the seven-time MotoGP world champion in his climb to the premier class.

Marquez was full of advice for the two youngsters during the event, with the Ducati star offering Moreira and Rueda some advice on what it takes to become a MotoGP title-winner.

In the Brazilian’s line of questioning, he was asked how it has been to be mentored by one of the greatest riders in Grand Prix motorcycle racing history in the lead-up to his premier class debut.

Moreira replied via Marca, “He has his group, and I have mine. I have a great time training with him. It’s always been a dream to train with him or with Alex. I try to learn as much as I can. He always helps me a lot, and I’m grateful for that.”

Another piece of advice that Marquez gave to Moreira was to show a high level of patience during his opening years in the category.

Naturally, the LCR star is keen on clocking in more mileage and bolstering his confidence on MotoGP machinery, adding, “We took a huge step from testing to racing. We still have a lot to learn; it’s a whole different world.

“I’ve learned the most by following others, like Marc and Alex. We need more time on the bike, which will make all the difference.”

Diogo Moreira has already been making waves in MotoGP with his new riding style

As well as his impressive points-scoring result in Thailand making headlines, Moreira’s riding style also caught the eye of keen spectators during his first foray into racing premier class machinery.

The most impressive aspect of Moreira’s debut was arguably how competitive he was to LCR’s flag-bearer, Johann Zarco.

Despite holding a vast amount of experience over Moreira, the Frenchman finished just two places ahead of his teammate in P11.

Zarco has been impressed with Moreira’s transition into MotoGP so far, and the Brazilian is already in conversations over a potential move to the factory Honda outfit next year.
