Giacomo Agostini has given his thoughts on Ducati having Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta in the same team in 2027.
The 2027 MotoGP rider market is in full action ahead of the start of the 2026 season, with big names expected to switch teams at the end of the current year.
Although it has not been confirmed, one of the biggest reports from the rider market is that Marc Marquez will stay with Ducati, and will be joined by Pedro Acosta.
The Spaniards would create a powerful line-up for the factory Ducati squad, but with it would likely bring internal tension between the experienced rider and the young contender.
Have Ducati made the right decision? 💣
Marquez and Acosta would be like ‘having two roosters in the same henhouse’
Although securing a rider for the present and the future would benefit Ducati, Giacomo Agostini can see tension arising between the two Spaniards.
The former World Champion told Gazzetta.it that Marquez and Acosta would give each other ‘extra motivation’ as they would both want to be the best rider in the team.
However, the Italian is confident that Ducati would win the MotoGP World Championship with either Marquez or Acosta.
Agostini said, “It would be like having two roosters in the same henhouse. Acosta is talented and a fighter, while Marquez has more experience.
“It would be fantastic for Ducati because one of the two would almost certainly win. The riders, on the other hand, would have extra motivation: to beat their teammate.”
Would you have accepted Honda’s offer if you were Marquez?
Marc Marquez will remain with Ducati for another two years
Despite interest from Honda, it appears that Marquez will stay in red for another two seasons after winning the title with the Italian manufacturer in 2025.
With the new regulations arriving in 2027, there could be a shake-up in the order in MotoGP, but Ducati will likely remain towards the front despite the changes.
Agostini also does not see a world where Marquez would decide to leave Ducati as they allowed him to become World Champion again after his tough final years at Honda.
Agostini explained, “He won the title with that team, so it wouldn’t make sense to leave it. I don’t know what offers he had or how the balance of power will change with the new regulations in 2027, but Marc must have faith in his team. They allowed him to become world champion once again.”
