Marc Marquez is still struggling physically from his injuries in 2025 after his test in Buriram was hampered by multiple crashes.

The Ducati rider has been working hard during the winter break to recover to full fitness after his 2025 season was ended prematurely. Marquez crashed with Marco Bezzecchi in Indonesia, leaving him with a fractured shoulder.

Since then, the Spaniard has been slowly building up his fitness, riding Ducati street bikes in private tests before making it to Sepang for the first official MotoGP test of 2026.

Marquez was praised for his attitude during his first test back on a MotoGP bike in Malaysia. He continued where he left off in 2025 and ran towards the front of the field on his GP26.

In Buriram, Marquez racked up more mileage and was top of the timesheets in the morning on day two. But his weekend was marred by several crashes.

Marc Marquez admits he ‘hasn’t recovered’ as he had hoped after Buriram crashes

Marquez crashed twice on day one as his brother, Alex Marquez, went fastest. During his long-run simulation on Sunday, he crashed again, which ended his session early.

The Ducati rider was feeling under the weather with a virus, and he admitted that he had not recovered in the way that he had hoped after the Buriram test.

He told Motorsport Espana: “The plan was to do the simulation, but I fell and that’s why I didn’t go out again.

“I think I still have some room left in my body, but we’ve been through a lot. The accident was due to a lack of concentration, but it’s also true that my body isn’t at its best because of stomach problems.

“Today I’m feeling a little better, but my body hasn’t recovered as I expected,” he admitted. “I still don’t know what my 100% physical condition will be (now), because that can change after each injury. But I’m very happy with the feeling the bike gives me.”

How will Marc Marquez perform at the Thailand Grand Prix?

Of course, Marquez will be the firm favourite for the title in 2026 and will be fighting at the front. But with his physical condition, he could be in for a tough challenge.

For that reason, Marquez refused to say that he would win the Thailand Grand Prix as he admits that he is still not at full fitness.

Jorge Lorenzo warned Marquez he would ‘lose something’ when he returns from injury. With his brother, Pecco Bagnaia, Marco Bezzecchi and Pedro Acosta making strong progress, he will be in for a tough battle.

But even when he has not been at full fitness, the Ducati rider has been consistently towards the front of the timesheets. He will be a threat, so long as he can keep himself on two wheels.
