Jorge Martin had to miss the three-day Sepang MotoGP Test after undergoing another surgery on his wrist, but has the truth behind the injury been revealed?

The 2025 MotoGP season was a disaster for Jorge Martin, as the reigning Champion had to undergo multiple surgeries on several injuries throughout the year.

His injury woes then carried over into the 2026 season, when Martin was unable to participate in the Sepang Test due to another operation on his wrist.

Aprilia stated that the operation was required to address a previous injury; however, new rumours suggest otherwise.

Latest rumour regarding the surgery revealed by Neil Hodgson

During the latest episode of Gas It Out, Neil Hodgson revealed rumours he has heard in the MotoGP paddock about why Martin really underwent surgery.

The 2003 World Superbike Champion has been told that Martin crashed a motocross bike whilst training ahead of testing and suffered a new injury.

Hodgson said, “We are here again, it is hard to believe. Someone said this to me, and I don’t know if it is true, it is a rumour, Aprilia said he went for the surgery because something was not right.

“But I had also heard he went because he crashed a motocross bike, or a training aid. I don’t know if it is factual, but it has done the rounds.

“The people who were telling me the story were not on the inside, but people I would trust. I cannot say that it is fact, but that is one of the rumours.”

Jorge Martin’s MotoGP future does not lie with Aprilia

After winning the 2024 MotoGP World Championship with Pramac Racing on a Ducati, Martin signed with Aprilia on a two-year contract for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

However, his time with the Italian manufacturer has not gone to plan due to the injury woes he suffered in 2025 and the contract drama that arose as he tried to leave Aprilia before the 2026 season.

It is now expected that Martin will not remain on the RS-GP for 2027 when the new regulations come into play and the 850cc engines are introduced.

Reports during the Sepang Test suggested that Martin is in talks with the factory Yamaha squad and will replace Fabio Quartararo, as he will sign a two-year deal with Honda.
