The 2026 MotoGP season could see a shake-up when it comes to the business model for satellite teams as Trackhouse Racing explore selling stakes.

After competing in the NASCAR Cup Series since 2021, Trackhouse Racing debuted in the MotoGP World Championship in 2024 as the Aprilia satellite team.

The American squad have struggled to attract title sponsors during their time in MotoGP, with Gulf set to feature on their bikes during five Grands Prix in 2026.

Due to a lack of title sponsors entering the sport, the team are reportedly looking at selling stakes, amid rumours that Max Verstappen wants to buy into the Trackhouse Racing team.

Trackhouse Racing are in discussions to sell parts of the team

On the Paddock Pass Podcast, journalist Uri Puigdemont confirmed that he knows Trackhouse Racing are in active discussions with a few candidates to sell parts of the team.

It is believed that the idea of selling stakes in a MotoGP team was introduced after the arrival of Liberty Media to the sport.

According to Puigdemont, the business model that Liberty Media are introducing pushes teams to sell stocks and parts of the team to outside investors.

Puigdemont said, “I think I would probably pick Trackhouse, but something is happening in the MotoGP paddock right now.

“The teams are not being forced but pushed by the Liberty Media acquisition and business model; they are trying to sell stocks and parts of the team to different investors.

“Guenther Steiner has recently done this, before attending his first race as team principal, he has sold part of his stock. I think this is some kind of model that will be implemented in the next few years.

“I know Trackhouse have been discussing with a few candidates to sell a part of the team. Other teams have also been in discussions. I know KTM have been in discussions to sell a part of the team.”

Trackhouse may not remain with Aprilia for the 2027 MotoGP season

Even though the 2026 season will be Trackhouse’s third year as Aprilia’s satellite squad, there have been rumours that they will move to a new manufacturer in 2027.

The American team achieved their first win in the 2025 MotoGP season with Raul Fernandez at the Australian Grand Prix on the Aprilia RS-GP. However, according to reports, Trackhouse are in discussions with Honda.

There have been suggestions that Aprilia will join forces with VR46 for the 2027 MotoGP season, leaving Trackhouse to find a new manufacturer to work with.

This has led to rumours that the American team are discussing with Honda to obtain two RC213Vs for next season.
