Marc Marquez had a record-breaking 2025 MotoGP season as he reclaimed his crown with Ducati, and he could be in for another one this year.

The Ant of Cervera won his first championship since 2019 with Ducati in 2025, wrapping up the title with five rounds to spare and 25 wins, including Sprints. Marquez wanted to prove that he could return to the front of the grid after years of injury setbacks with Honda.

What do you expect Marc Marquez to achieve in 2026?

By winning the 2025 title, Marquez has equalled Valentino Rossi and his premier class championships, standing at seven. He is also the oldest champion of the MotoGP era, breaking his Italian nemesis’ feat in 2009 at 30 years old by winning last year at the age of 32.

As 2026 approaches, Marquez could be in for another record-breaking season, and there are multiple ways that the Spaniard could add his name to the history books.

The MotoGP records that Marc Marquez can break in 2026

If Marquez were to defend his crown in 2026, he would become the joint-most successful premier class rider, equalling Giacomo Agostini’s record of eight titles.

He would also extend the record for the oldest MotoGP champion and become the oldest back-to-back champion. However, Marquez is not the oldest premier class champion, as Leslie Graham holds that title at 37 years and 340 days after he won in 1949.

With 73 MotoGP wins, Marquez could surpass Rossi’s record in 2026, which currently sits at 89. He would need to win 16 out of the 22 races to achieve it, so completing it in 2027 or even 2028 is perhaps more realistic.

He could also break Rossi’s record for the most fastest laps in premier class history, as Marquez sits on 72, needing just five in 2026 to surpass the Doctor. The Ducati rider has the joint-most fastest laps in a season with 12 alongside Rossi and Agostini – 13 is more than achievable in 2026.

The 32-year-old can become the most successful rider in Sprint races, as he needs just two wins to beat Jorge Martin’s feat of 16 victories. Marquez can also extend his own record of most consecutive Sprint wins, having achieved eight in a row in 2025 between the Aragon and Catalan GP.

With nine wins at the Sachsenring in Germany, Marquez could equal Agostini again for the most wins at a single circuit/Grand Prix, with the Italian legend winning 10 times at Imatra in Finland.

There are also multiple records that Marquez currently holds that he could extend further in 2026 if he remains as dominant with Ducati as he was in 2025.

He holds the record for most wins in a season (13), most podium finishes in a season (19), most pole positions (74), most poles in a season (13), most poles at the same circuit (8, Austin and Sachsenring) and the most pole, win, fastest lap and leading every lap in the same race (11).

What does Marc Marquez think about these MotoGP records?

It would be an unbelievable achievement for Marquez to win the title in 2026, which would almost certainly put him right in the conversation for MotoGP’s GOAT. But these stats and records are not something he thinks about.

Marquez did not think about equalling Rossi in 2025 as he was more focused on his comeback from injury with Ducati. He later described matching the Italian’s MotoGP titles as ‘an honour’.

Speaking about his 2026 season, Marquez says his 2025 title would be better if he won this year. He says last year’s win is the ‘most important’ championship of his career, given the effort he put in to fully recover.

Marquez will face huge competition in 2026, with Marco Bezzecchi, Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez set to give him a fight for the championship. But the Ant of Cervera is certainly the rider to beat.
