Marc Marquez showed complete dominance in MotoGP in 2025, with his rivals rarely coming close to beating him on track.
The Ducati rider missed the final four rounds of the season after fracturing his right shoulder in a crash in Indonesia. But Marquez had already wrapped up the title the weekend before in Japan, winning his seventh MotoGP title and marking an incredible comeback from multiple injury setbacks.

He won 25 races across the season, including Sprints, of which he won 14 of the 18 he competed in. Jorge Lorenzo’s father admitted he was ‘bored’ watching Marquez dominate in 2025, but appreciates the impact he has had on the sport.
Having recovered from his shoulder injury, the Spaniard will be looking to defend his crown, and his rivals will be searching for ways to beat him. Casey Stoner has pointed out one trick that ‘nobody’ can seem to understand.
Casey Stoner says ‘nobody’ can understand how Marc Marquez preserves his tyres in MotoGP
Stoner was in awe of how Marquez managed traction control in MotoGP in 2025, as he saw him riding ahead of it, which gave him a ‘phenomenal’ feeling from the front. Another trick he has noticed is with the Michelin tyres.
Marquez was often seen managing his tyres during races. For instance, in Thailand, he had a tyre pressure issue and gave the lead to Alex Marquez, only to claim it back and win the race.
Marquez’s entourage claimed he was ‘forced’ to dominate in Thailand because of the issue, but even as the season progressed, Stoner says ‘nobody’ could understand how he manages his tyres and how much he gets out of them.
He told Crash: “I mean, my MotoGP career was as long as [the time between Marquez’s last two championships]. He’s been there quite a few years now.
“But what it’s done, over these last years that have been difficult for him, is just build another level of strength and intelligence and patience. It’s seemingly what I think everyone that’s racing him now lacks.
“Nobody seems to understand what he’s doing in the races to preserve tyres and do all this sort of thing. They just see this one-speed Marc, where he plays a different card each week. But a very common theme I saw throughout [2025], that nobody picked up on enough, was how patient he was with the tyres.”

Casey Stoner likens Marc Marquez’s MotoGP tyre trick to Max Verstappen
Stoner went on to liken Marquez’s tyre management to what Max Verstappen does in Formula 1. He notes how the Dutchman is able to get more from the rubber by looking after them during stints.
“It’s a little bit like Formula 1,” he added. “The really good guys at the moment, in particular Max [Verstappen].
“When they’ve put the new tyres on after a pit stop, he takes several laps before he starts to put pace into them, and that gives him an extra 10 or 15 laps towards the end of the stint, [and] with a lot more pace after looking after the tyres and bringing them in slowly, softly.
“I think Marc has realised what’s necessary out of these [MotoGP] tyres and he really is patient with them.”
