Marc Marquez’s data has become a source of both awe and frustration in the MotoGP paddock, with commentator Matt Birt revealing that even world champion rivals are forced to admit they cannot replicate his physical feats.
On the current MotoGP grid, Marc Marquez stands in a league of his own. The 2025 campaign was a perfect example of that.
Following years of recovery from an injury nightmare, the Spaniard arose from the ashes to claim his seventh title in the premier class, dispatching several world champions who found glory in his absence.
Fabio Quartararo is adamant that Marquez’s absence doesn’t devalue his 2021 title, but it’s hard not to question the ‘what ifs’ regarding the Ant of Cervera’s lengthy injury layoff.

Matt Birt explains how every rider says they ‘can’t do’ what Marc Marquez can do on a MotoGP bike
During an appearance on the Motorsport Republica podcast, MotoGP commentator Matt Birt was asked for his thoughts on the reigning world champion being a “generational talent” in the premier class of Grand Prix motorcycle racing.
The voice of MotoGP highlighted the sentiments that he has received from Marquez’s on-track rivals in his response, saying, “What makes Marc stand out from everybody else is when you talk to the other riders, nobody knows better than those guys the talent that he’s got.
“You’ve only got to listen to some of the media scrums, the debriefs, guys that have ridden Hondas, guys that are now riding Ducatis, guys that are directly compared to Marc on the same bikes.
“They can see his data, and these are guys who are top-level world championship MotoGP riders who have won MotoGP races.
“And for me, what makes Marc stand out is when they go, ‘I look at his data, I see what he’s doing on circuit, and I can’t do that. I cannot do that. I can’t do what that guy is doing. I’ve tried, and I’m on my arse, or I’ve tried, and I run wide. Or I’ve tried, and I lose it, I’m a second lap slower.’
“There are things that only he can do on two wheels on planet earth, and for me, that is what sets him apart from everybody else.”
Former MotoGP team boss Ricard Jove shared a similar sentiment that he had heard from Marquez’s former teammates.
The Spaniard highlighted how the seven-time MotoGP champion’s counterparts took his skills for granted, due to the fact that they would often look at his telemetry data, which would, in turn, ‘destroy them’.

Matt Birt also highlighted how many Marc Marquez has now converted a lot of his critics into fans
The British journalist also highlighted how many fans who once despised Marquez due to his spat with Valentino Rossi have now been converted by his incredible comeback story.
During the podcast appearance, Birt added, “A lot of people are becoming Marc converts because they’ve realised what this guy has been through, and the sacrifices that he’s made; it’s not about the money.
“Marc’s got more money than he’ll ever know what to do with for the rest of his life. It’s just about proving to nobody else other than himself what he’s capable of.
“Am I still good enough? Can I still do it if my body is in relatively full working order? Am I still the guy to beat in MotoGP?
“And as we have seen over the last couple of years, yes, he is. And for my MotoGP fans, long may that continue because it’s an incredible feel-good story.”
