Jaime Alguersuari blasts Pedro Acosta critics as ‘idiots’ who misjudge the KTM’s pace

Pedro Acosta entered the MotoGP World Championship as the next big thing but has not delivered in the premier class after two seasons.

After three years across the Moto2 and Moto3 World Championships, Pedro Acosta was promoted to the MotoGP World Championship in 2024. After first arriving in MotoGP, Acosta was labelled as the new Marc Marquez, a tag he hated.

The Spaniard had a stellar rookie season as he won the Moto3 title in his first year in the class with the Red Bull KTM Ajo squad. Acosta continued with the Finnish team in Moto2 and secured the title in the intermediate class during his second season.

For 2024, Acosta made his way into MotoGP with Tech3 on a KTM, before being promoted to the factory KTM squad for 2025. During his two seasons on the RC16, he has claimed 10 Grand Prix podiums and 11 Sprint Race podiums.

However, after dominating the lower classes, Acosta has not been able to secure a win in MotoGP after competing in 41 Grands Prix, which has led many to doubt his abilities.

Pedro Acosta’s doubters have been labelled as ‘idiots’

Former Grand Prix rider and pundit Jaime Alguersuari has recently shared his support for Acosta and had a message for his doubters.

In an interview with MOTOSAN, the Spaniard compared Acosta to the MotoGP Legend Ángel Nieto due to his dominance in the lower classes at a young age.

Alguersuari also had a message for Acosta’s doubters, as he labelled them ‘idiots’ after suggestions that he is not good enough, as he has not been able to win with the KTM in MotoGP.

Alguersuari said, “Someone who wins Moto3 at 16. I saw something Ángel Nieto taught me: ‘He who kills a leopard at 16 will kill a lion at 20.’ And I said: he’ll win in Moto2 and break a leg. He scored 175 points in 20 races and finished 4th, but he didn’t give anyone a chance.

“The following year he wins another title, in the first three of his life, and arrives in MotoGP at 19 or 20. And when he gets to MotoGP he finishes 5th.

“Suddenly, that kid comes back and people say he’s not good, that he doesn’t win with KTM, but they’re idiots. That kid was racing with a bike that nobody else could beat, only he could. And then last year, that kid, with that same bike, finished 4th in the World Championship.”

Pedro Acosta could be on his way to Ducati for the 2027 season

The 2026 MotoGP season will be Acosta’s third year with KTM. During pre-season, there have been reports that Acosta will leave the Austrian manufacturer at the end of the year.

Throughout 2025, there had already been rumours suggesting that Acosta would leave KTM to join the VR46 Racing Team, which ultimately did not happen. However, it now appears the Spaniard could end up on a Ducati in 2027.

With reports that Francesco Bagnaia will lose his seat in the factory Ducati squad next year, it has been reported that Acosta will replace Bagnaia at Ducati in 2027.

If he does put pen to paper on a two-year deal for the 2027 and 2028 MotoGP seasons, Acosta will partner Marquez in the factory Ducati squad.
