Francesco Bagnaia is likely to be on the move in 2027 as he faces leaving Ducati at the end of his contract.

The Italian has previously stated his intention to stay at Ducati beyond 2026. However, with Marc Marquez being the priority for the team, Bagnaia seems to have fallen out of favour and he is more aware of his situation.

Rumours have suggested that Pedro Acosta is joining Ducati and will partner with Marquez in the works team. That leaves Bagnaia out of the team, and with him not considering a satellite team, he will need to find a new factory.

The Borgo Panigale outfit have kept tight-lipped on their contract dealings and whether the two-time MotoGP champion will leave. But Ducati admit that the rumours about Bagnaia are ‘not good’ as speculation grows as to where he will end up in 2027.

Yamaha are ‘gaining momentum’ as a destination for Francesco Bagnaia in 2027

Nicolo Bulega has told Bagnaia to join Aprilia if he leaves Ducati. The Noale outfit could provide a fresh start for the 29-year-old, and being an Italian team with an Italian teammate in Marco Bezzecchi, it would be a good fit.

Jorge Lorenzo also talked up Aprilia for Bagnaia, calling it an ‘excellent’ option for 2027 and beyond. However, one other manufacturer is in the race for the Ducati rider.

As per a report from The Race, Yamaha is ‘gaining momentum in the rumour mill’ as Bagnaia’s destination next season. The Iwata outfit have been tracking the Italian since last year and could not strike a deal.

Yamaha look set to sign Jorge Martin next year. The combination of the Spaniard and Bagnaia would be a title-winning line-up, and one that could lead them back to the front after years of underperformance.

How are Ducati feeling about Francesco Bagnaia ahead of 2026?

Of course, nothing is set in stone just yet, and Bagnaia would certainly want to stay with the factory Ducati team. After a torrid 2025 campaign, he is looking to get back on track in 2026.

The Italian felt much more positive on the GP26 during the Sepang test, clocking some decent mileage and overall pace.

Bagnaia outpaced Marquez in his race simulation in Malaysia, showing strong signs of improvement on the new Desmosedici.

Luigi Dall’Igna is happy with Bagnaia after testing, but whether he will give him the chance to prove himself on the bike and earn a new contract is another question.
